WH Cites Progress in 30-Day Tariff Negotiation Extension with EU, Canada, Mexico

(Worthy News) – The White House said Tuesday that the administration is extending tariff negotiations with the European Union, Mexico, and Canada for 30 days because it has seen some progress.

President Donald Trump issued two proclamations on Monday modifying the Section 323 tariffs on steel and aluminum. The administration reached a final agreement with South Korea on steel imports. It also reached agreements with Argentina, Australia, and Brazil on steel and aluminum tariffs, and the details are expected to be finalized soon. The proclamation also extended tariff negotiations with the EU, Mexico, and Canada for 30 days.

“In all of these negotiations, the Administration is focused on quotas that will restrain imports, prevent transshipment, and protect the national security. These agreements underscore the Trump Administration’s successful strategy to reach fair outcomes with allies to protect our national security and address global challenges to the steel and aluminum industries,” the White House said in a statement.
