Record number of pro-life laws passed in 2021
This year has seen 106 new pro-life laws passed, a record which overtook the previous record of 100 anti-abortion laws passed in 1973, The 19th reports. The 2021 laws were passed by 19 states, with twelve of the new acts incorporating some kind of total ban on abortion, The 19th said.
Federal judge blocks controversial Texas “heartbeat” law
A federal judge on Wednesday issued an injunction to temporarily block implementation of the controversial Texas “heartbeat” law which bans abortion from around six weeks gestation, DW reports. US District Judge Robert Pitman in Austin ordered the temporary injunction in response to a suit filed by the Biden administration, which argued the law is unconstitutional.
Afghanistan: Kabul airport suicide bomber had just been freed from Bagram Air Base
The ISIS-K suicide bomber who killed 13 US service members and 170 Afghan civilians at Kabul airport on August 26 had been released from prison at the Bagram Air Base just days before the attack, Yahoo News reports. The bombing took place as the US conducted an intensely chaotic albeit massive evacuation effort as part of its final withdrawal from Afghanistan.
Nigeria: Six more Christians murdered by Fulani jihadists
Fulani jihadist herdsmen are continuing their slaughter of believers in Nigeria, killing six more Christians in Plateau state between October 1-5, International Christian Concern (ICC) reports. Rights group Open Doors recently reported Nigeria as having the highest numbers of Christians murdered on account of their faith; the international community has largely remained silent.
