Ancient tomb door with stunning menorah carving revealed in Israel

(Worthy News) – As the Jewish holiday of Hanukkah comes to a close, the discovery of an ancient tomb door with a stunning menorah carving is providing a fascinating glimpse into Israel’s rich history.

The basalt tomb door, which is undergoing preservation work, was recently put on display by the Institute of Archaeology at Hebrew University, in Jerusalem.

The door was discovered in Tiberias in Israel’s Galilee region in 2010 by archaeologists from the University, but was only revealed to the public a few weeks ago, said Dr. Katia Cytryn-Silverman, senior lecturer at Hebrew University’s Institute of Archaeology and Department of Islamic and Middle East Studies. Senate narrowly passes GOP tax cuts, sends back to House for one last vote

(Worthy News) – Senate Republicans passed a major overhaul of the tax code early Wednesday morning, bouncing the bill back to the House for one last vote Wednesday morning before it is sent to President Trump’s desk for his signature.

The bill passed 51 to 48, along party lines, with Vice President Mike Pence presiding. Republican John McCain missed the vote while recuperating in Arizona.

With the Senate’s vote, passage of the $1.5 trillion tax cut is all but complete. The House voted Tuesday afternoon for essentially the same plan to reduce business and individual taxes. [ Source: Washington Examiner (Read More…) ]

Republicans scramble for spending deal by Friday

(Worthy News) – House Republicans late Tuesday had little time to celebrate their pending victory on tax reform, and instead were scrambling to come up with a bill to keep the government open past Friday’s deadline.

The House is expected to vote on legislation as early as Wednesday that would keep the government funded fully through Jan. 19 and would include full fiscal 2018 funding for defense.

But that bill won’t pass the Senate. [ Source: Washington Examiner (Read More…) ]
