Ohio passes law barring abortion over Down syndrome diagnosis

(Worthy News) – Women in Ohio would be prohibited from receiving abortions because of a fetal Down syndrome diagnosis under a bill that passed the state senate on Wednesday and is heading to Republican Governor John Kasich’s desk.

Lawmakers voted 20-12 in favor of the law, which criminalizes abortion if the physician has knowledge that the procedure is being sought due to a diagnosis of Down syndrome, a genetic disorder caused when abnormal cell division results in an extra full or partial copy of chromosome 21.

Doctors would lose their medical licenses in the state and face a fourth-degree felony charge under the law if they were to perform an abortion with that knowledge. Mothers would not face criminal charges. [ Source: Reuters (Read More…) ]

Muslim leaders call on world to recognize East Jerusalem as Palestinian capital

Muslim leaders call on world to recognize East Jerusalem as Palestinian capital

(Worthy News) – Muslim leaders on Wednesday condemned U.S. President Donald Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and called on the world to respond by recognizing East Jerusalem as the capital of Palestine.

Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan, who hosted the summit of more than 50 Muslim countries in Istanbul, said the U.S. move meant Washington had forfeited its role as broker in efforts to end Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

“From now on, it is out of the question for a biased United States to be a mediator between Israel and Palestine, that period is over,” Erdogan said at the end of the meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation member states. [ Source: Reuters (Read More…) ]

Poll: 90% of Palestinians oppose Trump’s Jerusalem declaration

Poll: 90% of Palestinians oppose Trump’s Jerusalem declaration

(Worthy News) – The Palestinians overwhelmingly oppose U.S. President Donald Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital and have little faith in the U.S. or its Arab allies, according to a poll released Tuesday.

The poll found that 91% of respondents consider Trump’ declaration last week to be a threat to Palestinian interests. Meanwhile, 45% believe the Palestinians should cut all contacts with the U.S., submit a complaint to the International Criminal Court and launch an armed uprising against Israel.

Trump’s declaration departed from decades of U.S. policy that the fate of Jerusalem should be decided through negotiations. The Palestinians claim east Jerusalem, captured by Israel in the 1967 Mideast war, as the capital of a future independent state. Israel says the entire city, including east Jerusalem, is its eternal capital. East Jerusalem is home to sensitive Jewish, Muslim and Christian holy sites. [ Source: Israel Hayom (Read More…) ]

US military to send cyber soldiers to the battlefield

(Worthy News) – The US Army will soon send teams of cyber warriors to the battlefield, officials said Wednesday, as the military increasingly looks to take the offensive against enemy computer networks.

The cyber soldiers have been integrated for six months in infantry units, and will tailor operations according to commanders’ needs, said Colonel William Hartman of the Army’s Cyber Command.

The Army has for the past three years conducted training for such operations at a huge center in southern California. [ Source:AFP (Read More…) ]
