(Worthy News) – A federal judge gave the Trump administration the green light to ban so-called “bump stocks,” devices which modify semi-automatic guns to fire bullets more rapidly.

U.S. District Judge Dabney Friedrich said in a ruling Monday evening that the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives has the authority to ban the devices, dismissing a challenge to the rule that is set to take effect on March 26.

The case is one of a handful of federal lawsuits filed challenging the rule unveiled by the Justice Department in December. [ Source: Washington Examiner (Read More…) ]

(Worthy News) – President Trump on Monday was at risk of losing a critical Senate vote on his national emergency declaration on the border, which could set up Trump’s first presidential veto.

Starting Tuesday, Congress will start to move a resolution disapproving of Trump’s declaration, which he issued to access $3.6 billion in military construction funds to build a steel slat fence at the southern border. The disapproval resolution is expected to pass the House Tuesday, and the administration has been hopeful it would fail in the Republican-led Senate.

But at least three Senate Republicans are now expected to vote for the resolution along with Democrats, who only need four Republicans to pass it in the upper chamber. [ Source: Washington Examiner (Read More…) ]

(Worthy News) – The U.S. military said on Monday that a recent air strike in central Somalia killed 35 al Shabaab fighters.

The United States carries out regular air strikes in Somalia in support of a United Nations-backed government there, which has been fighting against an al Shabaab insurgency for years.

(Worthy News) – House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Monday that the House will pass a resolution to cancel President Donald Trump’s emergency declaration to secure funds for a border wall.

Pelosi, D-Calif., and other Democrats including Rep. Joaquin Castro, D-Texas, who introduced the privileged resolution H.J.Res. 46, held a press conference calling on lawmakers in the Senate to also pass the resolution in order to “defend our democracy.”

“Congress must step up and reclaim its role over the power of the purse,” he said. “This resolution is critically important to the future of the relationship between the legislative and the executive branches above and beyond any party, above and beyond any president.” [ Source: UPI (Read More…) ]
