Jesus was a ‘sorcerer,’ Bible a ‘book of magic,’ say Christian witches ahead of first annual convention

(Worthy News) – The first annual Christian witches convention is set to be hosted in Salem, Massachusetts, this April and will feature internationally recognized Prophet Calvin Witcher who agrees with the convention’s host that Jesus was a sorcerer and the Bible is really a “book of magic.”

The Rev. Valerie Love, the force behind the event who describes herself as a practicing Christian witch and an ordained minister of spiritual consciousness, recently launched the Covenant of Christian Witches Mystery School to help Christians tap into magic, which critics are condemning as “dangerous.” She insists there is nothing wrong with the idea of Christians practicing magic despite biblical warnings against it.

In an extended discussion with Witcher approximately two months ago on reconciling the practice of witchcraft and Christianity, Witcher, whose website says he “brings God’s messages to humanity through powerful teaching and training, allowing non-traditional followers to hear the divine voice of hope,” said the Bible is a “huge book of sorcery.” [ Source: Christian Post (Read More…) ]

The meeting originally set for Thursday was postponed as Netanyahu remained in Israel to push for a merger of right-wing parties ahead of the upcoming elections.

Putin warns U.S. of renewed Cuban Missile crisis, says Russia has edge

(Worthy News) – President Vladimir Putin has said that Russia is militarily ready for a Cuban Missile-style crisis if the United States wanted one, and that his country currently has the edge when it comes to a first nuclear strike.

The Cuban Missile Crisis erupted in 1962 when Moscow responded to a U.S. missile deployment in Turkey by sending ballistic missiles to Cuba, sparking a standoff that brought the world to the brink of nuclear war.

More than five decades on, tensions are rising again over Russian fears that the United States might deploy intermediate-range nuclear missiles in Europe, as a landmark Cold War-era arms-control treaty unravels. [ Source: Jerusalem Post (Read More…) ]

Vermont House passes sweeping no-limits abortion legislation

(Worthy News) – The Vermont House overwhelmingly passed Thursday a sweeping, no-limits abortion bill that makes terminating a pregnancy a “fundamental right” and ensures access to the procedure at every stage of gestation.

H.57 was approved by a vote of 106-36 after legislators defeated a dozen proposed amendments offered by Republicans, including provisions requiring a 48-hour waiting period, parental notification for minors, and a cut-off at 24 weeks’ gestation except in medical emergencies.

Vermont Right to Life executive director Mary Hahn Beerworth blasted Democrats for rejecting “common-sense amendments to protect minor girls, to limit abortions on unborn babies in the later states of development, to provide informed consent (including alternatives to abortion), to provide regulation and inspection of abortion clinics.” [ Source: Washington Times (Read More…) ]

‘Fringe’ no more: Bernie Sanders says nearly 1M supporters and counting rising up to realize ‘political revolution’

(Worthy News) – Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt. said Thursday his liberal ideas which were once seen as “fringe” are now infused into a mainstream America he hopes will rise up to support his second bid for the White House.

In his first prime-time interview since announcing his 2020 campaign for president, Sanders made his case to an MSNBC audience why he is running again when there are plenty of other progressive alternatives, such as Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., this election cycle — a stark contrast to the 2016 roster.

“First of all, I’m proud of what we accomplished in 2016 and I’m proud that we changed the political discourse in this country,” Sanders told host Chris Hayes. “That ideas are widely accepted, are part of the mainstream, are being supported by many Democratic candidates. If you will recall three years ago, these ideas were considered to be radical and extreme and fringe ideas.” [ Source: Washington Examiner (Read More…) ]

United Methodists confront possible split over LGBT issues

(Worthy News) – The United Methodist Church’s top legislative assembly convenes Sunday for a high-stakes, three-day meeting likely to determine whether America’s second-largest Protestant denomination will fracture due to divisions over same-sex marriage and the ordination of gay clergy.

While other mainline Protestant denominations — such as the Episcopal and Presbyterian (U.S.A.) churches — have embraced gay-friendly practices, the Methodist church still bans them, even though acts of defiance by pro-LGBT clergy have multiplied and talk of a possible breakup of the church has intensified.

At the church’s upcoming General Conference in St. Louis, 864 invited delegates — split evenly between lay people and clergy — are expected to consider several plans for the church’s future. Several Methodist leaders said they expect a wave of departures from the church regardless of the decision. [ Source: Fox News (Read More…) ]

Israel’s moonshot blasts off with a successful launch

(Worthy News) – Israel’s first lunar-bound spacecraft successfully blasted off early Friday morning, embarking on a seven-week trip to land on the moon. If the privately funded Beresheet project is successful, Israel will be just the fourth country to land a spacecraft on the moon.

Beresheet lifted off from Cape Canaveral in Florida at 3:45 a.m. Israel time (8:45 p.m. Thursday EST), catching a ride on one of Elon Musk’s SpaceX commercial space launches.

The start of the flight went smoothly, with the first stage entry burn completed uneventfully less than three minutes after lift-off. At 4:25 am, 38 minutes after takeoff, Beresheet successfully detached from the Falcon 9 rocket, in the first test of its ability to function under its own power.
