(Worthy News) – India’s top court ruled on Thursday that individual privacy is a fundamental right, a verdict that could derail the world’s largest biometric ID card program now under way.

A nine-member bench heard petitions denouncing the mandatory use of national identity cards, known as Aadhaar, as an infringement of privacy. There have also been concerns over breaches of data.

“The judgment read out so far only says that the right to privacy is a fundamental right, protected by Article 21 (of the constitution on the right to life and personal liberty),” Prashant Bhushan, a senior lawyer who was party to the case, told reporters. “Any law, like the Aadhar Act or any other law, which seeks to restrict the right to privacy will have to be tested on the touchstone of Article 21.” [ Source (Read More…) ]

(Worthy News) – New photographs obtained by congressional leaders show Iran shipping militant soldiers to Syria on commercial airline flights, a move that violates the landmark nuclear agreement and has sparked calls from U.S. lawmakers for a formal investigation by the Trump administration, the Washington Free Beacon has learned.

Photographs published by a Washington, D.C., think-tank and provided to Congress show Iran using its flagship commercial carrier, Iran Air, to ferry militants to Syria, where they have joined the fight against U.S. forces in the region.

The new photographic evidence has roiled congressional leaders, who accuse Iran of violating the nuclear deal, which prohibits it from using commercial air carriers for military purposes. (Worthy News) – The Trump administration on Tuesday slapped economic sanctions on 10 Chinese and Russian companies and six people for covertly assisting North Korea’s nuclear weapons and missile programs.

The Treasury Department announcement said the sanctions were imposed “in response to North Korea’s ongoing development of weapons of mass destruction, violations of United Nations Security Council Resolutions, and attempted evasion of U.S. sanctions.”

The sanctions represent the first time the U.S. government has cracked down on Chinese and Russian firms that have been facilitating North Korea’s development of nuclear arms and long-range missiles. [ Source (Read More…) ]

(Worthy News) – The Palestinian leadership in Ramallah is considering dismantling the Palestinian Authority, if there is no political horizon to establish an independent Palestinian state, Ahmad Majdalani, a confidant of PA President Mahmoud Abbas, said on Wednesday, a day before senior Trump administration officials are due in Ramallah.

“This option is being discussed and considered seriously. We are studying its political, legal, administrative implications,” Majdalani told The Jerusalem Post in a phone interview. “If there is no political horizon, we are not going to be agents of the occupation – we are not going to help General Poli.”

Majdalani, who also is a PLO Executive Committee member, said that if the Palestinian leadership decides to dissolve the PA, Israel would become responsible for delivering services to Palestinians. [ Source (Read More…) ]
