Iran’s Rouhani rejects talks with Washington

(Worthy News) – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani rejected talks with the United States on Tuesday, after President Donald Trump said Iran would call and ask for negotiations ‘if and when they are ever ready’.

Tehran and Washington have escalated rhetoric against each other in recent weeks as the United States has tightened sanctions with what it says is the goal of pushing Iran to make concessions beyond the terms of its 2015 nuclear deal.

Trump withdrew the United States a year ago from the deal between Iran and global powers, under which Tehran curbed its uranium enrichment capacity, a potential pathway to a nuclear bomb, and won sanctions relief in return. [ Source: Reuters (Read More…) ]

U.S. warns Assad against using chemical weapons

(Worthy News) – The U.S. State Department warned the Bashar al-Assad government in Syria that its military operations were being closely watched, specifically concerning allegations that it used chemical weapons against rebels.

“Unfortunately, we continue to see signs that the Assad regime may be renewing its use of chemical weapons, including an alleged chlorine attack in northwest Syria on the morning of May 19, 2019,” State Department spokeswoman Morgan Ortagus said in a statement Tuesday. “We are still gathering information on this incident, but we repeat our warning that if the Assad regime uses chemical weapons, the United States and our allies will respond quickly and appropriately.”

Ortagus said the alleged attack was part of a violent campaign waged by President Assad and violates a ceasefire that has protected millions in the Idlib area. [ Source: UPI (Read More…) ]

“When I heard about how Planned Parenthood is trying to take up shop here in this city, I had to come and help you expose Planned Parenthood for who and what they really are,” Pamela Wooden, the first lady and director of women’s ministry at the Upper Room Church of God in Christ in Charlotte, said during the protest.

“Planned Parenthood is a genocidal organization that targets black women and profits from lying and killing innocent children.” [ Source: Christian Post (Read More…) ]

Report: Religious Couples Have Happier Marriages

(Worthy News) – Both religion and egalitarianism have something to offer those seeking a happy marriage in a world of shifting mores—though religion leads to more children—a new report on international perspectives on marital happiness shows.

The report, a joint project of the Institute for Family Studies and the Wheatley Institution, uses data from two surveys of respondents in eleven countries: Argentina, Australia, Chile, Canada, Colombia, France, Ireland, Mexico, Peru, the United Kingdom, and the United States. The authors set out to examine the now standard bromide that progressive, secular social values lead to happier marriages.

As study authors W. Bradford Wilcox, Jason S. Carroll, and Laurie DeRose wrote in the New York Times, the recipe for a happy marriage is either being religious or being egalitarian—those stuck in the middle are consistently the worst off. [ Source: Washington Free Beacon (Read More…) ]

California sues Trump administration to return high-speed rail funding

(Worthy News) – California sued the Trump administration Tuesday over its decision to pull nearly $ 1billion in federal funding for a high-speed rail project.

The lawsuit filed in federal court in San Francisco seeks to block the Federal Rail Administration from withdrawing $929 million in funding for a bullet train, originally planned to be built between San Francisco and Los Angeles.

In the suit, California claims the government’s decision to pull the funds was arbitrary and capricious and will threaten to “wreak significant economic damage on the Central Valley and the state.” [ Source: UPI (Read More…) ]

Survey: Americans’ confidence in job market at record high

The poll numbers come at a time of historic unemployment, relatively good job numbers and a strong economy. [ Source: UPI (Read More…) ]

Iran Resumes 3.76% Enrichment of Uranium, Bucking Trump’s Offer for a Phone Call

by Jordan Hilger, Worthy News Correspondent

(Worthy News) – Iran has resumed its enrichment of uranium, quadrupling its enrichment capacity, the Iranian state-run IRNA news agency reports.

Behrouz Kamalvandi, the spokesman for the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran, was quoted as saying Iran would begin enriching uranium at 3.76%, the prescribed limit under the terms of the 2015 nuclear accord.

The commander of Iran’s elite Revolutionary Guards, Major General Hossein Salami, said last Wednesday that his country was “on the cusp of a full-scale confrontation with the enemy,” according to the Fars news agency, calling the current standoff with the US “the most decisive moment of the Islamic Revolution.”

Besides the deployment of four B-52 Stratofortress bombers, the USS Abraham Lincoln carrier strike group, and a new battery of Patriot missiles to the Middle East, the US withdrew all nonessential personnel from its embassy in Iraq following rocket fire Sunday night that seemed to have originated in an area of eastern Baghdad populated by Shi’ite militias loyal to Iran.

Saudi Arabian officials last Thursday, moreover, confidently attributed drone attacks on a Saudi oil pipeline to Iran-backed Yemeni Houthi rebels, with Prince Khalid bin Salman saying the recent terrorism against his country’s oil assets “proves that these militias are merely a tool that Iran’s regime uses to implement its expansionist agenda.”

Although uranium enriched at 3.76% is not enough to produce a nuclear weapon, Iran said it intends to resume enrichment at weapons-grade levels on July 7th barring any major reversals on sanctions from the Trump administration.
