IDF says large-scale terror attack thwarted as troops prevent Gaza infiltration

(Worthy News) – The Israeli military said on Saturday that a “large-scale terror attack” was thwarted as troops killed four Palestinians who attempted to infiltrate into Israel from the Gaza Strip, armed with AK-47 rifles, rocket-propelled grenades, hand grenades, hunting knives and bolt cutters. The Israel Defense Forces released a number of photos of the seized weapons.

Palestinian media reported that some or all of the four were former Hamas terrorists. Conflicting reports late Saturday said they had quit the Gaza-ruling terror group or had been ejected from it.

The IDF said it holds terror group Hamas, which rules the Gaza Strip, responsible. “The expectation is that Hamas will control events [in the Strip] and prevent them; it is therefore responsible for whatever happens in the Gaza Strip in these aspects,” the military said. Trump ‘not ready’ to deal with China, says September talks may be canceled

(Worthy News) – President Trump said he was “not ready” to make a deal with China on trade and that a planned September meeting between White House officials and Beijing could be called off.

A cancellation would increase the likelihood that the Trump administration follows through with its threat to enact new tariffs on $300 billion on Chinese goods, since the levies are set to begin in September if a trade deal isn’t reached.

“We’re talking to China. We’re not ready to make a deal, but we’ll see what happens,” Trump told reporters Friday as he left the White House for a fundraising trip to New York. “We’ll see whether or not we keep our meeting in September. If we do, that’s fine. If we don’t, that’s fine.” [ Source: Washington Examiner (Read More…) ]

Yemeni separatists capture Aden

(Worthy News) – Yemeni separatists have captured the strategically important southern port city of Aden following days of fighting against government-loyal forces.

The city’s military compounds, the presidential palace, port and airport were seized Saturday by the United Arab Emirates-backed Southern Transitional Council, the council’s spokesman told CNN.

The Yemen civil war began in 2015 between the Yemeni government and the Iranian-backed Houthi militants, resulting in turning the poorest nation in the Arab region into the world’s “largest humanitarian crisis” resulting in some 24.1 million people requiring some form of assistance or protection and 14.3 million people in acute need of help. Hong Kong police and protesters refine battle tactics

(Worthy News) – Hong Kong police and protesters clashed in cat-and-mouse encounters across the city on Sunday, marking a shift in tactics during a tenth straight weekend of unrest in the former British colony where many are chafing at Chinese rule.

Seeking to clear streets more quickly than before, police fired tear gas and charged with batons at flashpoints from big shopping boulevards to bar-lined streets and railway stations.

Demonstrators, who at one point lobbed two petrol bombs, retaliated with a flash-mob strategy – withdrawing when pressed, only to re-appear elsewhere relentlessly. [ Source: Reuters (Read More…) ]

Thousands protest for fair elections in Moscow, largest in 8 years

(Worthy News) – Frustration over the exclusion of opposition candidates from Moscow’s local election next month drew tens of thousands of protesters on Saturday, making it the city’s largest protest rally in eight years, by some estimates.

The rally marked the fourth consecutive weekend of demonstrations of the Russian capital’s city council ballot. The demonstration has prompted protests in other cities, reflecting wider frustrations with Russia’s tightly controlled politics.

Unlike the previous two Moscow rallies, where police harshly dispersed the crowds and arrested more than 1,000 protesters, Saturday’s gathering was officially sanctioned. [ Source: Fox News (Read More…) ]
