Two attacks on two borders in one day: Is the IDF ready for war on 3 fronts?

(Worthy News) – Two attacks on two borders in less than 24 hours. One targeted IDF troops stationed along Gaza, while another targeted Hezbollah positions in Syria’s Golan Heights. Two incidents, miles apart. Just a small indication of the major challenge Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Aviv Kochavi faces in the next war.

Before dawn on Thursday, hours after the army completed the largest drill since Operation Protective Edge five years ago, a Hamas terrorist armed with grenades and a Kalashnikov infiltrated into southern Israel near the community of Kissufim and injured an officer and two soldiers before being killed by IDF reinforcements.

Several hours later, Israel was accused of striking a Syrian Arab Army position in al-Bariqa west of Queintra on the Golan Heights. [ Source: Jerusalem Post (Read More…) ]

North Korea Conducts Third Test Launch in 2 Weeks

(Worthy News) – North Korea has fired at least one projectile into the Sea of Japan, a U.S. official confirmed to ABC News.

The official said that the projectile is similar to the two launched by North Korea earlier this week which were assessed to be short-range ballistic missiles. The South Korean Joint Chiefs also later confirmed the launch of unknown short-range projectiles at 2:59 a.m. and 3:23 from South Hamgyong Province into the East Sea.

This is the third launch by North Korea in the last two weeks alone. U.S. officials have said these launches appear to be North Korea’s protest to joint U.S.-ROK military exercises set to begin later this month. [ Source: ABC News (Read More…) ]

Mexico says number of migrants down 39% since May

(Worthy News) – Mexico said Tuesday the number of mainly Central American migrants traveling through the country to reach the U.S. border has declined by 39% since May.

Mexico’s foreign relations secretary, Marcelo Ebrard, said the number of migrants fell from 144,278 in May, to 87,648 so far in July.

Ebrard said the drop is the result of greater Mexican enforcement of its immigration laws, as well as investment in job creation in Central America. [ Source: AP (Read More…) ]

US preparing to withdraw thousands of troops from Afghanistan as part of proposed Taliban deal

(Worthy News) – The Pentagon is preparing to withdraw thousands of troops from Afghanistan as part of a proposed peace deal with the Taliban, U.S. officials told Fox News Thursday.

One official warned the withdrawal would be subject to the completion of any agreement. So far, no such deal has been finalized.

“While RS [Resolute Support] or DOD [The Department of Defense] can speak with more authority on this issue, we have not adjusted our troop levels in Afghanistan to reflect our discussions with either the Afghan government or the Taliban,” a State Department official told Fox News. “The presence of U.S. forces has long been conditions-based. Adjustments over the years have been conditions-based. And any future reductions or withdrawal of forces will also be conditions-based.” [ Source: Fox News (Read More…) ]
