Christian Woman Raped and Sold by ISIS Reunites With Father

(Worthy News) – A Christian woman who was kidnapped by the Islamic State terror group in 2014, and was raped and sold as a sex slave, reunited with her father, her last surviving family member, in an emotional video captured online.

The woman, Rita Habib, described her reunion with her father as a “dream,” as reported by Kurdistan 24. Extremists overran their town of Qaraqosh, southeast of Mosul, three years ago, killing thousands of people and taking hundreds of women and girls.

“I am very happy that after three years I reunited with my father. It is a joyous moment because he is the only family I have left,” Habib said. [ Source: Christian Post (Read More…) ]

Senate bill to protect Robert Mueller from Trump firing could see Thursday vote

(Worthy News) – Four U.S. senators, including Republicans Lindsey Graham of South Carolina and Thom Tillis of North Carolina, introduced legislation Wednesday that would make it hard for President Trump to fire special counsel Robert Mueller.

The proposal could get its first vote Thursday, though Republican floor leaders are skeptical of the Special Counsel Independence and Integrity Act.

But the key Republican at the committee level — Sen. Charles Grassley, Iowa Republican and Judiciary Committee chairman — has said he will allow the bill to come to a vote, telling CNN that he hoped that could happen Thursday. [ Source: Washington Times (Read More…) ]

UN chief says Security Council must prevent Syria ‘spiraling out of control’

(Worthy News) – The UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres on Wednesday voiced concern to the Security Council’s five permanent members over the “impasse” on Syria, stressing “the need to avoid the situation spiraling out of control.”

His comments follow the council’s failure to agree on a response to an alleged chemical attack in Syria’s rebel-held Douma over the weekend that has triggered global fury.

“I have also been closely following developments in the Security Council and regret that the Council has so far been unable to reach agreement on this issue,” Guterres said in a statement, referring to members the United States, Russia, China, France and Britain. Report: 80% of Palestinians killed in Gaza border crisis were ‘terrorists’

(Worthy News) – Around 80% of the 32 Palestinians killed by the IDF during the ongoing Gaza border crisis were terrorist operatives or identified with terrorist organizations, an intelligence report asserts.

The report by the Meir Amit Intelligence and Terrorism Information Center said that 26 of the 32 Palestinians fit into those categories.

Nine of the dead Palestinians were part of military terrorist cells and four were part of Gazan security services, according to the report. The other 17 identified as connected with terrorist groups were so identified based on public statements made by various terrorist groups taking credit for the loyalties or activities of those individuals, the report said. Justice Department hands over Russia probe documents after impeachment threat

(Worthy News) – The Justice Department has handed over all of the documents requested by the House intelligence committee after a congressman threatened to impeach FBI Director Christopher Wray and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein over the delay.

A Justice Department official said the documents, which were related to the FBI’s probe of the Trump campaign’s contacts with Russia, were turned over Wednesday.

That was just before the deadline set by Rep. Devin Nunes, California Republican and the intelligence panel chairman, had threatened to impeach Mr. Wray and Mr. Rosenstein for failing to comply with a subpoena for the documents from last August. [ Source: Washington Times (Read More…) ]

Possible US strike on Syria looms large as allies weigh military action

Possible US strike on Syria looms large as allies weigh military action

(Worthy News) – A possibility of US-led strike on Syria appeared to gain traction Wednesday with President Donald Trump warning that “missiles will be coming” in response to an alleged chemical attack in Syria, and the White House confirming that “a number of options” were being discussed.

With punitive US military action seemingly imminent, Russia scrambled to deflect blame from its ally Bashar Assad and, according to a monitor group, Syrian forces evacuated key defense buildings in Damascus.

Trump’s warlike tweets came in response to a warning from Russia’s ambassador to Beirut, who took to a television network run by the Hezbollah terror group to declare that any US missiles would be shot down “as well as the sources they were fired from.” [ Source: Times of Israel (Read More…) ]

Israel solemnly remembers 6 million victims on Holocaust Remembrance Day

Israel solemnly remembers 6 million victims on Holocaust Remembrance Day

(Worthy News) – Israel will come to a standstill at 10 a.m. Thursday as sirens will wail throughout the country in memory of the six million Jews murdered by the Nazis during World War II. The sirens will be followed by ceremonies marking Holocaust Remembrance Day in schools, public institutions and army bases. Later in the day the traditional “March of the Living” will be held in Poland.

The traditional wreath-laying ceremony will be held at the Yad Vashem Holocaust Museum in Jerusalem, at the memorial to the Warsaw Ghetto uprising. It will be followed by various events and activities, including the main memorial ceremony at 1 p.m. and a youth movements’ assembly at 5:30 p.m.

At 11 a.m. the Knesset is scheduled to mark the day with its annual ceremony titled “Unto Every Person There is a Name,” in which lawmakers recite names of victims of the Nazis for nearly two hours. A similar ceremony will also be held at Yad Vashem. The ceremony’s name comes from a famous poem by the Israeli poet Zelda Schneersohn Mishkovsky (commonly referred to by her first name alone). The song version of the poem is often played at memorial ceremonies. [ Source: Times of Israel (Read More…) ]

After landslide re-election win, Hungary’s Orban takes aim at Soros

(Worthy News) – Having easily won re-election to a third term and clinching a two-thirds parliamentary majority for his ruling Fidesz party, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban vowed to crack down on liberal nongovernmental organizations.

One of the first laws to be passed by the new parliament will likely be what is being called the “Stop Soros” legislation in which NGOs which support migration and pose a “national security risk” could be banned, a spokesman for Fidesz said on April 9.

The bill is named after Hungarian-born leftist billionaire George Soros, who Orban has accused of trying to flood Europe with refugees. [ Source: World Tribune (Read More…) ]

Saudis Shoot Down Missiles, Drones as Middle East Tensions Flare

Saudis Shoot Down Missiles, Drones as Middle East Tensions Flare

(Worthy News) – Saudi Arabia said it intercepted ballistic missiles and shot down drones sent from Yemen, in the latest attack by pro-Iranian rebels that showed improved military capabilities more than three years into the conflict.

One missile was intercepted over Riyadh, with loud blasts heard in the night sky above the Saudi capital on Wednesday. Two other missiles were intercepted over the southern areas of Jazan and Najran, authorities said. The Saudi-led coalition fighting the Houthis in Yemen said it also downed a drone targeting an airport in the southwestern province of Abha and another in Jazan.

The missiles were fired just hours after President Donald Trump confirmed the U.S. would strike Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, whose forces are backed by Russia and Iran, over a suspected chemical weapons attack. The State Department said the Houthi attacks on Saudi population centers were “fueled by the Iranian regime’s dangerous proliferation of weapons and destabilizing activities in the region.” [ Source: Bloomberg (Read More…) ]
