INSS presents peace plan: Two-states, ‘separation’ from the Palestinians

(Worthy News) – The Tel Aviv-based Institute for National Security Studies (INSS) will unveil a two-state peace framework on Monday that includes steps it says Israel can take to retain a strategic advantage even if there is no partner on the other side with whom to negotiate.

Under the plan – drawn up by a 13-person team headed by veteran negotiator Udi Dekel that included INSS head and former Military Intelligence chief Amos Yadlin, and Gilead Sher, who served as chief of staff to then prime minister Ehud Barak – Israel would declare its commitment to a two-state solution and a willingness to enter into direct negotiations over an agreement. In parallel, it would take steps to move forward “separation” from the Palestinians and end its rule over the Palestinians in Judea and Samaria.

The plan comes amid continued anticipation of when the Trump Administration will roll-out its long-awaited peace framework, and uncertainty about what will be in it. [ Source: Jerusalem Post (Read More…) ]

Trump: ‘Democrats are going to end up voting Republican’ in midterms

(Worthy News) – President Trump said Monday that Democrats’ smearing of Supreme Court Justice Brett M. Kavanaugh, and their calls for his impeachment, will prompt many disgusted Democratic voters to support Republican candidates in the mid-term elections.

Before departing the White House for Florida to speak Monday at the annual convention of the International Association of Chiefs of Police, Mr. Trump argued that the rival party will end up alienating large chunks of its base before the key November elections.

“I think a lot of Democrats are going to vote Republican,” Mr. Trump told reporters at the White House. “The main base of the Democrats have shifted so far left that we’ll end up being Venezuela. I think a lot of Democrats are going to be voting Republican on Nov. 6.” [ Source: Washington Times (Read More…) ]

IMF downgrades global growth outlook, places responsibility on US-China trade tensions

(Worthy News) – The International Monetary Fund (IMF) on Tuesday downgraded its outlook for the world economy, warning that the imposition of import tariffs between the US and China were taking its toll on global trade.

The IMF’s World Economic Outlook report, unveiled on the eve of its upcoming summit in Bali, Indonesia, estimated that global growth in 2018 would reach 3.7 percent, the same as the previous year but lower than the 3.9 percent it had forecast earlier this year.

It also slashed its outlook this year for 19 countries, including several eurozone member states and emerging markets. [ Source: Deutche Welle (Read More…) ]

Chinese stocks fall almost 5% in market bloodbath as investors digest a week of bad news in a single day

(Worthy News) – Chinese stocks took a hammering Monday as traders returned to work after a weeklong holiday in the world’s second-largest economy.

Losses on major indexes in mainland China were as high as 4.8% in a major market rout, with the China A50, which includes major companies from both the Shenzhen and Shanghai indexes, as the biggest loser. The Shanghai Composite lost 3.7% of its value, while the Shenzhen Composite was down just over 4% at the close of the day’s trading.

The reasons behind the crash are numerous but include Chinese investors’ catching up to their Asian counterparts after a week of losses in Hong Kong, Japan, and South Korea. [ Source: Insider (Read More…) ]

Trump’s evangelical supporters hail Kavanaugh confirmation

(Worthy News) – Evangelical backers of President Donald Trump have hailed the Senate’s confirmation of Brett Kavanaugh as a Supreme Court justice on Saturday.

Kavanaugh’s appointment was dogged by controversy after he was accused of sexual misconduct by a number of women including Christine Blasey Ford, who said he had attempted to rape her when they were both teenagers. He strongly denied the accusations and public opinion divided sharply on party lines. Evangelicals largely favoured Kavanaugh, whose appointment tips the bench decisively in a conservative direction.

Conservatives will now have a five-four majority in any future legal battles on contentious issues such as abortion rights, immigration, transgender rights, industry regulation and presidential powers. [ Source: Christian Today (Read More…) ]
