Colorado Strikes at Christian Baker Jack Phillips Again…and He Strikes Back

(Worthy News) – Masterpiece Cakeshop baker Jack Phillips is now both on offense and defense as Colorado comes after him again. This time it’s for him refusing to bake a cake to mark a transgender changing from male to female. Meanwhile, he’s suing the state.

The state agency acting against Phillips lost at the US Supreme Court this past June in the Masterpiece Cakeshop v. Colorado Civil Rights Commission case, with justices specifically blasting the commissioners for hostility towards Phillips’ religious beliefs. Those commissioners nearly killed Phillips’ business when they ruled he’d discriminated by refusing to make a cake to celebrate a homosexual couple’s same-sex marriage. The commission is going after the Christian baker a second time, now for his refusal to bake a transgender celebration cake.

Phillips’ friend Jeff Hunt, a policy analyst at Colorado Christian University, told CBN News, “At this point, they’re just targeting Christians. This is outright Christian persecution.” [ Source: CBN News (Read More…) ]

Their message is clear – Trump and his supporters are “trash.” The controversial posters feature images of “Trump supporter” stereotypes with the words, “Keep NYC Trash Free.”

One version of the poster shows a white man with a heart shaped-Confederate flag tattoo wearing a “Make America Great Again” hat and holding a Chick-fil-A cup.

(Worthy News) – Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen said ‘everything is on the table’ with regard to border security during the unveiling of a border wall project in California on Friday.

The caravan covered more than 60 miles Friday and was roughly 990 miles from McAllen, Texas, and over 2,300 miles from San Diego. [ Source: Fox News (Read More…) ]

Trump warns voters of economic setback if Democrats take Congress

(Worthy News) – The sizzling economy underpins President Trump’s final blitz for Republicans in the midterms, with dire warnings that the jobs boom and higher wages will slip away if Democrats seize Congress.

Mr. Trump enjoys the best first-term economy in three decades with the gross domestic product growing at a 3.5 percent annual rate last quarter, and Mr. Trump wants Republicans rewarded for it at the ballot box.

Analysts agree, however, that good times breed complacency among midterm voters and that grievance, such as the burning hatred harbored by Mr. Trump’s opponents on the left, is a stronger motivator for turnout at the polls. [ Source: Washington Times (Read More…) ]

Trump’s new tax cut plan probably waits for 2019: lawmaker

(Worthy News) – The U.S. House of Representatives’ leading lawmaker on taxes suggested on Sunday that a new tax cut plan touted by President Donald Trump was unlikely to see action in Congress before 2019, and then only if Republicans keep their majority in Nov. 6 elections.

“Really common sense tells you that this (Trump’s new tax cut plan) is something, that as the Republicans retain the House and the Senate, that will advance in the new Congress,” Representative Kevin Brady said on Fox News.

Brady was discussing a new 10 percent middle-class tax cut proposal that Trump began touting earlier this month. [ Source: Reuters (Read More…) ]

Abbas: Unlike Balfour Declaration, Trump peace plan ‘will not pass’

(Worthy News) – Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas on Sunday again vowed to oppose any peace proposal by US President Donald Trump as PLO officials met to consider their next moves.

Speaking at the opening of a meeting of the Palestinian Liberation Organization’s central council, Abbas said Palestinians were facing perhaps the “most dangerous stage” in their history, highlighting a series of measures taken by Trump including recognizing Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.

Abbas has boycotted the White House since that December decision, though the US president’s team is still expected to release a peace plan in the coming months. [ Source: Times of Israel (Read More…) ]

Brazil elects right-wing candidate Jair Bolsonaro as president

(Worthy News) – Brazil’s Supreme Electoral Tribunal declared Sunday that far-right congressman Jair Bolsonaro, a champion of traditional Brazilian values, has won the country’s election for the presidency of Latin America’s biggest country and the world’s fourth-largest democracy.

Bolsonaro, who cast himself as a political outsider despite a 27-year career in Congress, is the latest of several leaders around the globe to gain prominence by mixing tough, often violent talk with right-wing positions. But he also is very much a product of a political tempest in Brazil that made his messages less marginalized: widespread anger at the political class amid years of corruption, an economy that has struggled to recover after a punishing recession and a surge in violence. The name of his party, PSL, translates to “Social Liberal Party,” although it largely abandoned its socially liberal platforms after he joined.

Bolstering his rebel image is his reputation for offensive statements and sometimes extreme views, including insulting women, black people and the LGBT community. [ Source: Fox News (Read More…) ]
