‘I’m Ready to Go!’ Trump Signals Willingness to Make a Deal – But Not Without a Wall

(Worthy News) – President Donald Trump says he’s ready to negotiate with Democrats to end the partial government shutdown, which is now entering its eleventh day.

“I’m here. I’m ready to go. It’s very important,” the president told Fox News in a phone interview. “A lot of people are looking to get their paycheck, and so I’m ready to go anytime they want.”

The federal government has been partially shuttered since Dec. 22, with lawmakers unable to come to an agreement over Trump’s demand for $5 billion in funding for a wall along America’s southern border. [ Source: CBN News (Read More…) ]

US, Israel quit UN agency UNESCO, claiming anti-Israeli bias

(Worthy News) – The United States and Israel officially quit the U.N.’s educational, scientific and cultural agency at the stroke of midnight, the culmination of a process triggered more than a year ago amid concerns that the organization fosters anti-Israel bias.

The withdrawal is mainly procedural yet serves a new blow to UNESCO, co-founded by the U.S. after World War II to foster peace.

The Trump administration filed its notice to withdraw in October 2017 and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu followed suit. [ Source: Fox News (Read More…) ]

US fires tear gas across Mexico border to stop migrants

(Worthy News) – U.S. authorities fired tear gas into Mexico during the first hours of the new year to repel about 150 migrants who tried to breach the border fence in Tijuana.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection said in a statement later Tuesday that the gas was used to target rock throwers apart from the migrants who were trying to cross.

“No agents witnessed any of the migrants at the fence line, including children, experiencing effects of the chemical agents, which were targeted at the rock throwers further away,” the statement said. [ Source: Fox News (Read More…) ]

Trump concedes: No ‘rush’ out of Syria, we’ve ‘almost’ eradicated ISIS

(Worthy News) – President Trump claimed Monday that he never said the U.S. would “rush out” of Syria despite reporting that indicated he had ordered a rapid withdrawal.

Trump was asked about his weekend meeting with Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., a vocal critic of the pullout, who said afterwards, “I feel a lot better” about the plan after Trump “told me some things that I didn’t know.”

“Well, I don’t think too much, except that I said, you know, I never said that I’m gonna rush out,” Trump said in a New Year’s Eve interview with Fox News. “We’re going to get out. We’re getting out of Syria; we’re bringing our young, great troops home after so many years.” [ Source: Washington Examiner (Read More…) ]

Under Trump, budget deficit projected to reach $1 trillion

(Worthy News) – President Trump, like his predecessors, has done virtually nothing to stop America’s runaway debt train.

Borrowing, spending and budget deficits have soared during Mr. Trump’s first two years with a Republican-led Congress. The red ink for the current fiscal year is projected to reach nearly $1 trillion, up from a deficit of $833 billion in fiscal 2018.

The smallest federal budget deficit in the past decade was $458 billion, in 2015. Even that relatively good year came on the heels of four consecutive trillion-dollar-plus deficits under President Barack Obama. [ Source: Washington Times (Read More…) ]

China’s Xi says Taiwan independence would be disaster, calls for peaceful ‘reunification’

(Worthy News) – Taiwan independence would lead to “disaster”, Chinese President Xi Jinping said on Wednesday, pledging efforts for peaceful “reunification” with the self-ruled island but warning China would not renounce the use of force.

Speaking at Beijing’s Great Hall of the People on the 40th anniversary of a key Taiwan policy statement, Xi said reunification must come under a one-China principle that accepts Taiwan as part of China, anathema to supporters of Taiwan independence.

While today the two sides have close business, cultural and personal links, proudly democratic Taiwan has shown no interest in being ruled by autocratic Beijing. [ Source: Reuters (Read More…) ]

Kim Jong Un says he’s willing to meet Trump at any time, in New Year’s message

(Worthy News) – North Korean leader Kim Jong Un said Tuesday that he is prepared to meet with U.S. President Donald Trump at any time, but warned that he would pursue an alternative course if Washington kept up sanctions on Pyongyang.

In his closely watched New Year’s address, Kim said he was ready to pursue an outcome that would be “welcomed by the international community.” However, he said the North will be forced to take a different path if the United States “continues to break its promises and misjudges our patience by unilaterally demanding certain things and pushes ahead with sanctions and pressure.”

Kim also said the U.S. should continue its halt to joint military exercises with South Korea and not deploy strategic military assets to the South. He also made a nationalistic call urging for stronger inter-Korean cooperation and said the North is ready to resume operations at a jointly run factory park in the North Korean border town of Kaesong and restart South Korean tours to the North’s Diamond Mountain resort. Neither of those is possible for South Korea unless sanctions are removed. [ Source: Fox News (Read More…) ]

Iran denounces Brazil’s plan to move embassy to Jerusalem

(Worthy News) – Iran has denounced plans by Brazil’s newly elected president to move its embassy to Jerusalem.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Bahram Ghasemi said Monday that such a move “will not help with peace, stability, security and retrieval of the Palestinian people’s rights.” He added, however, that “relations with Brazil will eventually be continued.”

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who is visiting Brazil, said Sunday it is only a matter of time until Brazil moves its embassy to Jerusalem. Incoming President Jair Bolsonaro said last month that he intends to move the embassy, prompting threats by Arab states to boycott Brazilian goods. [ Source: Washington Times (Read More…) ]
