(Worthy News) – Russia, Syria, and Lebanon on Monday criticized the United States for recognizing the Golan Heights as Israeli territory.

“In a blatant attack on the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Syria, the president of the US has recognized the annexation of the Syrian Golan,” a foreign ministry source in Damascus said, according to state news agency, SANA.

Israel captured the Golan Heights from Syria in the 1967 Six Day War and extended Israeli law to the territory in 1981, a step tantamount to annexation. But the United States and the international community have long considered it Syrian territory under Israeli occupation. The plateau lies along a strategic area on the border between Israel and Syria.

Trump’s tweet came minutes after “Fox & Friends” aired a segment Monday morning on pending legislation in six states — Florida, Indiana, Missouri, North Dakota, Virginia and West Virginia — that would allow Bible literacy courses to become a part of a public school education.

(Worthy News) – The Israeli military began bombing targets throughout the Gaza Strip on Monday evening, some 12 hours after a rocket fired from the coastal enclave slammed into a home in central Israel, injuring seven people.

“At this time, the Israel Defense Forces has started to attack terror targets belonging to the Hamas terror group throughout the Gaza Strip,” the army said in a statement shortly after 5:30 p.m.

(Worthy News) – Two Russian air force planes arrived in Venezuela over the weekend, carrying about 100 troops and nearly 40 tons of cargo.

The aircraft, a military cargo plane and a passenger jet that also ferried a top Russian defense official, took off from a military airport in Russia and stopped in Syria on their way to Venezuela, according to the tracker Flighttradar24, Reuters reports.

The planes landed in the South American country’s main airport as dictator and Russian client Nicolas Maduro struggles to maintain power. Food shortages and energy blackouts have led to mass emigration and widespread protests in favor of opposition leader Juan Guaido, who is recognized as interim president by the United States and dozens of other Western nations. (Worthy News) – US President Donald Trump on Monday formally recognized Israel’s sovereignty over the Golan Heights, saying the dramatic shift in American policy will help Israel defend itself against regional threats.

“This was a long time in the making,” Trump said alongside Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House, as he signed the proclamation.

Speaking ahead of the signing, Trump said the move would “allow Israel to defend itself” against the “significant security challenges it faces every single day.” He said Israel “took the Golan Heights to safeguard from external threats,” such as those it currently faces from Syria, Iran, and the Iran-backed Hezbollah terror group. (Worthy News) – Israel Defense Forces troops began attacking Hamas facilities in the Gaza Strip on Monday evening, a little over 12 hours after a rocket attributed to the terror group hit a home in the center of the country, wounding seven people.

The military confirmed the start of the operation at around 5:45pm, saying that its forces were “striking Hamas targets throughout the Gaza Strip.”

(Worthy News) – Phil Bryant, the Republican governor of Mississippi, signed a bill into law on March 21 that prohibits abortions after a baby’s heartbeat can be detected, which is at approximately six weeks. In a tweet about the legislation, the governor said all people will answer to God one day and he wants to be able to say, “I fought for the lives of innocent babies.”

“We will answer to the good Lord one day,” tweeted Gov. Bryant on March 20. “I will say in this instance, ‘I fought for the lives of innocent babies, even under threat of legal action.”

(Worthy News) – US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo suggested in an interview that President Donald Trump may have been sent by God to save the Jewish people, and said he was “confident that the Lord is at work here.”

In a sit-down with the Christian Broadcasting Network on Thursday, interviewer Chris Mitchell noted that Israel was celebrating the Purim holiday.

“Jews worldwide and here in Jerusalem are talking about the fact that Esther 2,500 years ago saved the Jewish people with God’s help from Haman,” he said, mentioning the Persian villain of the megillah.

(Worthy News) – Amid protests and a heavy police presence, the Georgia Senate on Friday passed a bill banning almost all abortions after a fetal heartbeat can be detected.

The bill, backed by Republican Gov. Brian Kemp, passed on a 34-18 party-line vote and would be one of the nation’s strictest anti-abortion measures if it becomes law and is not blocked in court battles. It will now go back to the House to approve Senate changes, where it’s expected to pass again.

Women in Georgia can currently seek an abortion during the first 20 weeks of a pregnancy. A heartbeat can be detected in an embryo as early as six weeks into pregnancy, before many women know they’re pregnant. [ Source: Time (Read More…) ]

(Worthy News) – The British government has been using the Bible against Christians seeking asylum after converting from Islam—most recently, citing verses from Leviticus, Exodus, and Revelation as evidence that the faith was not more peaceful, as one Iranian convert claimed in his application.

Anglican leaders and other advocates for refugees condemned the immigration department’s decision to deny the Iranian’s 2016 petition for asylum this week.

The letter sent Tuesday from the Home Office declared that Christianity was not a peaceful religion, bringing up “imagery of revenge, destruction, death, and violence” in Revelation and the line “You will pursue your enemies, and they will fall by the sword before you” from Leviticus 26:7.
