Erdogan says Turkey committed to Russian missile defense deal

(Worthy News) – President Tayyip Erdogan said on Tuesday it was out of the question for Turkey to take a step back from its deal with Moscow to buy Russian S-400 missile defense systems.

Speaking to reporters after morning prayers, Erdogan also said an offer from the United States to sell Patriot missiles to Turkey was not as good as the Russian offer.

Turkey’s deal to buy the Russian S-400s, which could be delivered within weeks, has alarmed Washington and Turkey’s other Western NATO allies, who say the Russian system is incompatible with NATO’s defense network and poses a threat to U.S. F-35 fighter jets that Turkey also plans to buy. German intel: Iran buying illegal technology for weapons of mass destruction

(Worthy News) – The Islamic Republic of Iran is involved in the illicit procurement of technology for weapons of mass destruction, the German intelligence agency for the northern state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern wrote in its May report.

In the 206-page report, that was reviewed by The Jerusalem Post, the intelligence agents wrote: “The fight against the illegal proliferation of nuclear, biological or chemical weapons of mass destruction and the materials needed for their manufacture, as well as the corresponding delivery systems [e.g. rockets], including the necessary knowledge, in cooperation with other authorities, is also the responsibility of counterintelligence.”

The intelligence report continued, “From these points of view, it is essentially the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea [North Korea] and the Syrian Arab Republic that need to be mentioned. The intelligence services of these countries, in many ways, are involved in unlawful procurement activities in the field of proliferation, using globally oriented, conspiratorial business and commercial structures.” [ Source: Jerusalem Post (Read More…) ]

Judge rejects House Democrats’ attempt to block Trump use of military funds for border wall

(Worthy News) – A federal judge has ruled against congressional Democrats who sought to temporarily stop the president from using military funds for a border wall.

Judge Trevor McFadden, a Trump appointee, handed the president a needed victory after the White House suffered several losses in legal battles with Democrats in recent days.

McFadden ruled that House Democrats cannot go to court to block Trump from using military funds to build the border wall “because the Constitution grants the House no standing to litigate these claims.” [ Source: The Hill (Read More…) ]

Russia Withdraws Key Defense Advisers in Venezuela

(Worthy News) – Russia has pulled its key defense advisers from Venezuela amid U.S. pressure on the failing regime of President Nicolás Maduro, The Wall Street Journal reported Sunday.

Rostec, a Russian defense contractor that has trained Venezuelan troops, has cut its staff from about 1,000 several years ago to “just a few dozen,” a source told the Journal.

“They believe the fight is being lost,” the source told the paper.

Perhaps equally important, Venezuela has reportedly struggled to pay for the contractor, which has also been hit by sanctions from other defense contracts worldwide. [ Source: Wall Street Journal (Read More…) ]
