Israel making ‘great strides’ to Gaza operation, minister says

(Worthy News) – Israel is making “great strides” toward a broad military operation against Hamas in the Gaza Strip, Minister of Public Security and Strategic Affairs Gilad Erdan asserted Thursday, following an escalation of violence with Gaza overnight.

Erdan, speaking to Kan radio (Israel’s public broadcaster), added that a possible military operation would extract a price from Hamas at least as great as 2014’s Operation Protective Edge, “if not more than that.”

“We are being dragged into a wider operation with Hamas. We are approaching with great strides— because of Hamas— a situation in which the IDF will have to embark on a wide-scale operation,” said Erdan.” [ Source: Jerusalem Post (Read More…) ]

Judge allows lawsuit seeking to block Census citizenship question

(Worthy News) – A federal judge in New York on Thursday allowed a lawsuit seeking to block a question about citizenship from appearing on the 2020 Census to proceed.

United States District Judge Jesse M. Furman denied a motion filed by President Donald Trump’s administration to dismiss the suit, saying the plaintiffs made a probable case the addition of the question was a deliberate attempt to discriminate against immigrants, The New York Times reported.

The plaintiffs stated that including the question on the Census would “fatally undermine” the process, arguing both legal and undocumented immigrants would refuse to fill out the form, possibly skewing new state and congressional districts for the following year. [ Source: UPI (Read More…) ]

Trump administration sets sights on Libya’s oil reserves in behind-the-scenes power play

(Worthy News) – Iran’s loss may be Libya’s gain. The prospect that U.S. sanctions will drastically curb Tehran’s oil exports is feeding interest in Libya’s oil reserves and has even sparked movement toward economic and political reform in one of the region’s most unstable states.

As Libya endured yet another oil blockade, which pulled nearly 850,000 barrels per day from the world’s markets, Trump administration officials worked behind the scenes over the past month to pressure key militia leaders, government officials and oil executives to cooperate or face dire consequences, multiple sources told The Washington Times.

State Department and White House officials declined to comment on specifics, underscoring the sensitivities required to execute a successful power play in Libya. [ Source: Washington Times (Read More…) ]
