Rival Koreas’ generals end talks with no agreement

(Worthy News) – Rare general-level talks between the two Koreas ended with no agreement Tuesday, but the top delegates said they had a meaningful discussion on easing their countries’ decades-long military standoff.

Experts said it was still unclear whether the rivals can reach any breakthrough agreement on reducing tensions in the near future because South Korea, in close consultations with the United States, must link any expansion of ties to progress in North Korea’s nuclear disarmament. Earlier Tuesday, North Korea’s state media accused South Korea of being reluctant to take full-fledged steps toward reconciliation because it’s “reading another’s face,” an apparent reference to the United States.

“We hope that the South Korean authorities will come to their senses, though belatedly, and roll up their sleeves to improve inter-Korean relations,” the North’s Rodong Sinmun newspaper said in a commentary. [ Source: Washington Times (Read More…) ]

Turkish court rejects U.S. pastor’s appeal

(Worthy News) – A Turkish court rejected an appeal on Tuesday for an American pastor to be released from house arrest during his trial on terrorism charges, his lawyer said, in a case that has raised the threat of U.S. sanctions against Ankara.

Relations between the two NATO allies have spiraled into a full-blown crisis over the trial of Christian pastor Andrew Brunson, who was held for 21 months in a Turkish prison until his transfer to house arrest last week – a move Washington dismissed as insufficient.

U.S. President Donald Trump threatened on Thursday to impose “large sanctions” on Turkey unless it frees the pastor, who is accused of helping the group Ankara says was behind a failed military coup in 2016. [ Source: Reuters (Read More…) ]

Trump in Florida: ‘The Time Has Come for Photo ID’ for Voting

(Worthy News) – President Trump, speaking at a rally in Tampa, Fla., resurrected the issue of photo ID at the polls, suggesting that all voters should be required to show ID when they vote for president, senator, governor, or congressman.

“The time has come for voter ID, like everything else,” the president told supporters, “voter ID.”

“If you go out and you want to buy groceries, you need a picture on a card, you need ID,” said Trump. “You go out and you want to buy anything, you need ID. And you need your picture.”

While many were quick to brand Trump as out of touch for not knowing that you don’t need a photo ID to buy groceries, his underlying premise — that we need better election security — was on point. [ Source: PJ Media (Read More…) ]

Russian envoy: Deal reached to keep Iran 85 km from Israeli-Syria border

(Worthy News) – Russia and Israel have reached an agreement to remove Iranian forces in Syria to within 85 kilometers of the Golan Heights border, Russia’s special envoy for Syria told the Sputnik news agency on Wednesday.

“As we took into account the Israeli concerns, we managed to attain the pullout of Iranian units 85 kilometers (some 53 miles) from the Israeli border,” Russian Presidential Special Envoy for Syria Alexander Lavrentyev said.

Lavrentyev also noted Moscow believes Israeli concerns over the presence of Iran and its proxies near the Golan border are decreasing. “Yes, of course, we are certain of this,” he told Sputnik in response to a question about it. [ Source: Ynet News (Read More…) ]

IDF’s massive May attack in Syria combined artillery and jets

(Worthy News) – The IDF released on Tuesday a video clip showing parts of Israel’s May attacks on more than 50 Iranian targets in Syria in what was the widest military operation launched by the IDF in the war-torn country since 1974.

The footage shows that the attacks, which were prompted by Iranian forces in Syria launching a rocket salvo on Israeli army bases in the Golan Heights after US President Donald Trump withdrew from the 2015 Iranian nuclear accord, included not only IAF fighter jets, but also cannon fire by the 282nd Goland Artillery Brigade.

A short time after 30 rockets were launched into Israel, the IDF returned fire, pummelling targets using a combination of heavy artillery and jets in Syria, the largest military campaign to have been launched on Syrian soil by Israel since the civil war broke out in 2011. 3D Printed Guns Have Been Outlawed for 30 years

(Worthy News) – The National Rifle Association had to point out Tuesday that any untraceable gun is outlawed in reference to the recent legal settlement that will allow for the blueprints on how to print and set up a gun from a 3D printer to be available to the public.

“Many anti-gun politicians and members of the media have wrongly claimed that 3D printing technology will allow for the production and widespread proliferation of undetectable plastic firearms. Regardless of what a person may be able to publish on the Internet, undetectable plastic guns have been illegal for 30 years,” Chris Cox, the NRA-ILA Executive Director, said, according to Stephen Gutowski.

He continued, “Federal law passed in 1988, crafted with the NRA’s support, makes it unlawful to manufacture, import, sell, ship, deliver, possess, transfer, or receive an undetectable firearm.” [ Source: Daily Caller (Read More…) ]

Trump administration considering tax break on capital gains

(Worthy News) – The Trump administration is studying the idea of implementing a big tax break for wealthy Americans by reducing the taxes levied on capital gains, but no decision has been made yet on whether to proceed.

Administration officials said Tuesday that Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin prefers deferring to Congress. But he does have his department studying the economic impact of such a change and the legality of proceeding without congressional approval.

The change would involve taxing capital gains — profits on investments such as stocks or real estate — after taking into account inflation, which would lower the tax bite. Capital gains taxes are currently determined by subtracting the original price of an asset from the price at which it was sold and taxing the difference without adjusting for inflation. Liberal Media ‘Freak Out’ Over New Religious Liberty Task Force, Accuse Trump Admin of ‘Holy War on LGBT People’

(Worthy News) – Opinion pages, blogs, websites and other media sources are full of reports Tuesday with reaction to Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ Religious Liberty Task Force. The overriding concern seems to be that it is a direct set-up for discriminating against the homosexual community.

“The media have tried to convince Americans that gay rights, which are not stated in the Constitution, overrule religious rights which are clearly stated in the Constitution. Journalists fear being proven wrong,” Media Research Center’s president Dan Gainor told CBN News.

“Freedom of religion has been a core American principle from the very beginning of our country. Indeed, it is our first freedom,” said Sessions. “President Trump promised that he would make preserving and protecting our religious liberty the first priority of his administration. The Department of Justice is committed to assisting with that effort,” Sessions said. [ Source: CBN News (Read More…) ]

Judge issues temporary restraining order stopping release of 3D-printed gun

(Worthy News) – A federal judge issued a temporary restraining order Tuesday blocking a Texas organization from posting new online blueprints for 3D-printed guns, delivering a last-minute win to gun control backers who were worried about the implications of untraceable firearms being manufactured at home.

Defense Distributed had planned to make 3D blueprints widely available over the internet on Wednesday, but U.S. District Judge Robert S. Lasnik ordered a halt and reimposed Obama-era restrictions that blocked the plans’ distribution. The Trump administration reversed the rules this year.

“There is a possibility of irreparable harm because of the way these guns can be made,” said Judge Lasnik, setting a broader hearing for Aug. 10. [ Source: Washington Times (Read More…) ]

Trump to propose 25-percent tariff on $200 billion of Chinese imports: source

(Worthy News) – The Trump administration plans to propose slapping a 25-percent tariff on $200 billion of imported Chinese goods after initially setting them at 10 percent, in a bid to pressure Beijing into making trade concessions, a source familiar with the plan said on Tuesday.

President Donald Trump’s administration said on July 10 it would seek to impose the 10-percent tariffs on thousands of Chinese imports.

They include food products, chemicals, steel and aluminum and consumer goods ranging from dog food, furniture and carpets to car tires, bicycles, baseball gloves and beauty products. [ Source: Reuters (Read More…) ]
