Man arrested at New Mexico compound is son of imam with possible link to 1993 World Trade Center bombing

(Worthy News) – The man arrested at a squalid New Mexico compound is the son of a controversial Brooklyn imam who was on a list of people who “may be alleged as co-conspirators” to the 1993 World Trade Center bombing, according to court documents released by prosecutors Wednesday. Siraj Wahhaj, who shares a name with his son who was arrested Saturday, testified as a character witness for Sheik Omar Abdel Rahman, the notorious “blind sheikh” who was convicted in 1995 of plotting terror attacks in the U.S.

Authorities found 11 children and four adults living in “filthy” conditions at the compound Saturday in Amalia, New Mexico. Prosecutors also alleged in court documents that Wahhaj, 39, was teaching the children to commit school shootings. The documents claim Wahhaj was conducting weapons training with assault rifles at the compound with the children. [ Source: CBS News (Read More…) ]

Trump allies worry his aggressive campaign schedule could be a political liability for GOP candidates

(Worthy News) – In his final push before the 2016 presidential election, then-candidate Donald Trump spent the end of October furiously crisscrossing the country for nightly rallies with thousands of supporters. On Nov. 7 alone, the day before Election Day, the oldest president-to-be greeted voters in five different states over 12 hours.

So when Trump told longtime friend Sean Hannity in an interview last week that he plans to spend “six or seven days a week” campaigning with Republican candidates in the remaining two months before the midterm elections, few of his allies blinked twice.

The frenetic president, who turned 72 earlier this summer and has often bragged about his stellar health and “stamina,” is hell-bent on hitting the campaign trail as often as possible once September arrives. This week in particular, following four successful GOP primary endorsements and one special election win, Trump revealed his operating assumption: that his appearances alone can propel candidates with dim chances to glorious victories. Trump bump: Small-business owners report record-breaking optimism, says Gallup

(Worthy News) – The Trump bump continues, and Main Street appears to be intact. U.S. small-business owners are more optimistic now than at any point in the 15-year history of the Wells Fargo/Gallup Small Business Index.

Among other findings, the pollster revealed that 78 percent of the owners now rate their current financial situation as “good.” Another 77 percent expect their cash flow to be good in the next 12 months.

President Trump himself does well here in their research. On a list of small-business challenges — which include taxes, government regulations, hiring and credit — Mr. Trump was the last on the list of concerns, cited by only 2 percent of the owners. [ Source: Washington Times (Read More…) ]

Rep. Chris Collins’ indictment is a reminder that big government brings big corruption

(Worthy News) – Rep. Chris Collins, R-N.Y., perfectly demonstrates the difference between two types of Republicans. Some support free enterprise. Others, including Collins, advocate “pro-business” policies.

In other words, Collins and those of his ilk who are often flattered with the label “moderates” want government to embrace business intimately. His indictment Wednesday on charges related to alleged insider trading, and frankly his entire record in Congress, remind us how intertwining industry and the state multiplies corruption.

Collins has been charged with tipping off his son that the drug of an Australian drug company, Innate Immunotherapeutics, had failed a clinical trial. Collins denies the charges, and he should be presumed innocent until proven guilty. [ Source: Washington Examiner (Read More…) ]

U.S. Sanctions Russia Over Nerve-Agent Attack in Britain

(Worthy News) – The Trump administration on Wednesday ordered new sanctions on Russia after determining that Moscow used a nerve agent in an attack on a former Soviet spy and his daughter who are now British citizens.

The use of chemical or biological weapons, which is a violation of international law, triggers sanctions under U.S. law. Washington had previously expelled roughly 60 Russia diplomats in response to a nerve-agent attack on Sergei Skripal and his daughter, Yulia Skripal.

“Following the use of a ‘Novichok’ nerve agent in an attempt to assassinate UK citizen Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia Skripal,” the United States has determined that Russia “has used chemical or biological weapons in violation of international law or has used lethal chemical or biological weapons against its own nationals,” the State Department said in a statement. (Worthy News) – A strong aftershock has shaken the Indonesian island of Lombok where tens of thousands of people are homeless after a powerful earthquake on Sunday.

Indonesia’s geological agency said the quake Thursday afternoon had a magnitude of 6.2 and was shallow, at a depth of 12 kilometers, centered in the northwest of the island. It said it didn’t have the potential to cause a tsunami.

It’s the third big quake to hit Lombok in little over a week. Buildings still standing on the island have been weakened after Sunday’s 7.0 quake that killed at least 131 people and a 6.4 quake on July 29 that killed 16. [ Source: ABC News (Read More…) ]
