Christian Cake Baker Turns the Tables, Sues Colorado for Anti-Religious Bias

(Worthy News) – In June 2017, a lawyer named Autumn Scardina asked Phillips to create a custom cake celebrating his transition from male to female. When Phillips declined, on the same grounds as he had before, Scardina filed a discrimination complaint.

The Colorado Civil Rights Commission found probable cause that Phillips had again violated the state’s anti-discrimination laws.

Rather than wait for the entire process to play out, however, Phillips took the initiative and filed a federal lawsuit.

Assisted by the Alliance Defending Freedom, Phillips’ lawsuit makes four legal claims. First, he alleges that the government violated his First Amendment right to exercise his religion by targeting, showing hostility toward, and discriminating against him based on his religious beliefs and practices. 3 ‘extremist Muslim’ New Mexico compound suspects released after judge drops all charges

(Worthy News) – Three suspects tied to a New Mexico compound where alleged Muslim extremists reportedly trained children to be school shooters were released from custody on Wednesday, hours after a judge dismissed all of the charges against them, Fox News confirmed.

District Judge Emilio Chavez on Wednesday dismissed charges against three of the five defendants — Lucas Morton, Subhannah Wahhaj and Hujrah Wahhaj — ruling that authorities violated the state’s “10-day rule.”

Child abuse charges against them were dropped because prosecutors missed the 10-day limit for an evidentiary hearing to establish probable cause. [ Source: Fox News (Read More…) ]

Atheists Fail to Remove ‘In God We Trust’ From Money After Court Defeat, Call It ‘Utterly Revolting’

(Worthy News) – Atheists who failed to remove the national motto “In God We Trust” from U.S. coins and bills following an appeals court defeat have called their loss “utterly revolting.”

The 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in St. Paul, Minnesota, upheld in a 3-0 decision on Tuesday a lower court ruling from December 2016 that found that the national motto on money did not violate First Amendment free speech and religious rights.

As the New Doe Child # 1 v. The Congress of the United States case explains, 27 individuals who are atheists or children of atheists, along with two atheist organizations, declared that they “definitely do not trust in God.” [ Source: Christian Post (Read More…) ]

Palestinian Leaders Bet Future on Trump Impeachment

(Worthy News) – Palestinian leaders are betting their future on President Donald Trump being impeached by Democrats following the mid-term elections, according to Arabic language comments by a senior Palestinian government leader who praised Special Counsel Robert Mueller for targeting Trump and his top allies.

Palestinian government leaders, under pressure from the Trump administration as it slashes U.S. taxpayer aid to the embattled government, say they are betting on a Democratic takeover in Congress that will stall the administration’s agenda and put the still languishing peace process on the back burner.

Muhammad Shtaya, a member of the Fatah government’s Central Committee, said regional officials are counting on Democrats winning the midterms and seizing control of Congress, a scenario the Palestinians believe would work in their favor as the Trump administration pursues efforts to isolate regional governments for their support of terrorism. US economy’s growth rate boosted to 4.2 percent

(Worthy News) – The U.S. economy grew 4.2 percent in the three months through June, slightly faster than initially reported and the most in four years.

The improvement of 10 basis points reflects more complete data than were available for last month’s calculation by the Bureau of Economic Analysis, including an improvement in commercial and industrial investments and a drop in imports, which are subtracted from gross domestic product.

The changes made up for a downward adjustment of 20 basis points in consumer spending, which along with government investment should “continue to anchor growth for the remainder of the year,” Pooja Sriram of British lender Barclays Plc said in a report. Consumer companies from cosmetics firms Estee Lauder to electronics giant Best Buy have benefited from shoppers loosening their purse strings after last year’s tax cuts, though some are cautious about the rest of 2018.
