Crosses Being Removed, Covered in Scottish Chapels Due to Offended Non-Christians at Funeral Services

(Worthy News) – A Scottish government report has revealed that Christian crosses are being removed inside chapels during funeral services so as to not be offensive to atheists and non-Christians.

The Scottish Inspector of Crematoria revealed in the July 20 report on practices and issues surrounding funerals services in the country that there are concerns over the “lack of inclusive space” for people not of the Christian faith.

“There have also been concerns raised over the presence of Christian religious symbols, particularly the ‘cross’ in chapels and gardens of remembrance. There have been a number of occasions where at the request of applicants steps have been taken (where practical) to remove or conceal the cross (in chapel) for the duration of the service,” the report explained. 14,000 firefighters battling 18 major California blazes

(Worthy News) – Some 14,000 firefighters, including inmate volunteers, are battling 18 major blazes burning thousands of square miles throughout California with aircraft, assorted vehicles and picks and shovels.

They take aim at the biggest wildfires in two ways and in much of the same way the Department of Forestry and Fire Protection has for decades. They’ll go at it directly with water and retardant where they can.

And when they can’t take that direct approach, firefighters retreat to a ridge, wide road or stream where they use bulldozers to cut a “fire line.” There they’ll wait for the blaze to come to them while lighting “backfires” to clear vegetation between the fire line and the approaching blaze. Hawaii’s Big Island readies as Hurricane Hector approaches

(Worthy News) – Hawaii emergency officials who have been contending with Kilauea volcano’s lava flow were preparing for a hurricane that was expected to pass to the south of the islands this week.

Hurricane preparations were underway just as lava from the last active eruption site in a Big Island neighborhood decreased dramatically over the weekend and fewer earthquakes were felt.

“Basically the system appears to have almost shut down completely over the course of a couple of days,” said Tina Neal, scientist-in-charge at the U.S. Geological Survey’s Hawaiian Volcano Observatory. She likened it to turning off a spigot. [ Source: Fox News (Read More…) ]

DHS Reversal Reopens Asylum Cases for 87 Iranian Christians and Other Religious Minorities

(Worthy News) – The Department of Homeland Security has re-opened the asylum applications of a group of 87 Iranian Christians and other religious minorities who have been marooned in Austria for more than a year awaiting a final decision.

Lawyers for the group said the latest DHS action, which they were notified about last week, reversed an earlier blanket denial of their refugee applications back in February and could be a breakthrough in allowing them to reunite with other family members already living in the United States.

Sam Brownback, the U.S. ambassador at large for religious freedom who just weeks ago held the first-ever four-day ministerial on religious persecution across the globe, has said he has been involved in several high-level discussions about this group of Iranian Christians and other religious minorities stuck in Austria.
