Military Atheist Group Wants to Throw Air Force Commander ‘Behind Prison Bars’ for His Christian Faith

(Worthy News) – The Military Religious Freedom Foundation (MRFF) sent a formal complaint this week to Defense Secretary James Mattis calling for an investigation of Brig. Gen. E. John Teichert, a Christian and the newly installed commander of the 412 Test Wing at Edwards Air Force Base in California.

The group is furious at Teichert for posting links to articles, a Christmas video, and scriptures on his personal website called Prayer at Lunchtime for the United States. The website also has a list of prayer requests.

The MRFF says the website is in violation Air Force and Defense Department rules about religious proselytizing. [ Source: CBN News (Read More…) ]

The Satanic Temple Holds Rally Protesting Ten Commandments Monument

(Worthy News) – The Satanic Temple held a “Rally for the First Amendment” at the Arkansas State Capitol Thursday and brought with them a statue known as Baphomet, a goat-headed figure associated with the group.

Members say the goal of taking the statue to the state capitol is “to support the First Amendment and religious plurality,” according to a news release.

The Satanic Temple is upset the Arkansas legislature approved putting a Ten Commandments monument on the Capitol grounds. Members filed a lawsuit to allow the statue of Baphomet to be put on the same grounds, after lawmakers denied “a donation from The Satanic Temple,” the news release states. ‘Violating Freedom’: CA Lawmakers Vote Again to Stop Churches from Helping Gays

(Worthy News) – The California Senate has passed a bill that would inhibit the church’s ability to teach on sexuality and anyone seeking counseling to change their same-sex attraction. It does that by outlawing sexual orientation change efforts.

The bill (AB2943) now heads back to the California Assembly for a “concurrence” vote where it’s expected to pass. The assembly previously passed the bill in the spring.

The bill’s sponsor, Assemblyman Evan Low, says the bill will stop what he considers to be fraudulent counseling. “We as legislators have a responsibility to protect Californians from harmful and deceptive practices,” he said Thursday. “All Californians should be celebrated, cherished and loved for who they are.” [ Source: CBN News (Read More…) ]

Democrats shatter primary turnout records, bank on anti-Trump enthusiasm to deliver Congress

(Worthy News) – Democrats saw a surge in voter turnout in primaries in flyover country this month, leaving party leaders salivating over a potential enthusiasm gap they hope will deliver control of Congress and several major governorships in November.

Turnout records were broken in Wisconsin, Minnesota and Michigan, with Democrats outdistancing Republicans in the gubernatorial race and collecting more votes in numerous primary fights as both parties picked their nominees.

Abbas: We will thwart Trump’s plan, Nation-State Law

(Worthy News) – US administration officials who purportedly claim to want to improve the living conditions of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip are “liars,” Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas said on Wednesday.

He also pledged to continue payments to Palestinian security prisoners and families of “martyrs” killed while carrying out terrorist attacks against Israel. [ Source: Jerusalem Post (Read More…) ]

Russia says drone attacks on its Syria base have increased

(Worthy News) – Russian air defense assets in Syria have downed 45 drones targeting their main base in the country, its military said Thursday, after an attack by the Islamic State group on a Syrian army base a day earlier killed seven troops.

The Russian Defense Ministry spokesman, Maj. Gen. Igor Konashenkov, said that five of them were shot down in the last three days near the Hmeimim air base. The base in the province of Latakia serves as the main hub for Russian operations in Syria.

Konashenkov said that while the drones appear primitive, they use sophisticated technologies and have a range of up to 100 kilometers (60 miles). He charged that the jihadists wouldn’t have been able to assemble the drones without outside help, but didn’t specify who might have assisted them. [ Source: Times of Israel (Read More…) ]

Cyprus serving as Gaza’s port still in early stages

(Worthy News) – If the emerging cease-fire arrangement with Hamas includes some kind of port or shipping corridor from Cyprus to Gaza, as some reports have indicated, no one has yet cued in the Cypriots.

Cypriot officials told The Jerusalem Post on Thursday that Nicosia has not yet had a “substantial bilateral dialogue” with Israel on the matter, and that there has been no flurry of activity in recent days moving this proposal forward.

The official added that it is currently the summer holiday in Cyprus, and “there is no one in the office [Foreign Ministry]. We are aware of this proposal, and we are aware that the Israeli side is thinking of perhaps going forward and exploring the idea, but we have not yet had a substantial bilateral dialogue.” [ Source: Jerusalem Post (Read More…) ]

“This significant contribution is critical to stabilization and early recovery efforts and comes at an important time in the campaign,” the State Department said in a statement.

It said Islamic State’s territory is down to 400 square miles (1,000 square km) in Syria and nearly 150,000 people have returned to the city of Raqqa after the militant group fled. [ Source: Reuters (Read More…) ]

1,800 Soldiers Have Professed Faith in Christ at Missouri Army Base in Last 6 Months

(Worthy News) – Over 1,800 soldiers have made professions of faith in the last six months at an Army base in Missouri, a chaplain says.

On Sunday, U.S. Army Chaplain Capt. Jose Rondon took to Facebook to rejoice in the fact that nearly 400 soldiers came to faith in Christ that day. And that total is only a small part of a broader revival that has been occuring on at Fort Leonard Wood.

“Today, 380 Soldiers came to salvation in Christ once and for all. Thanks CH Tony Cech for the excellent, clear, and powerful messages during the three services,” Rodon wrote in a post. “Since March 11 2018, we have seen 1,839 Soldiers coming to Christ.” [ Source: Christian Post (Read More…) ]

Wall St. rallies on solid earnings, U.S.-China trade talks

(Worthy News) – U.S. stocks rebounded on Thursday with the Dow posting its biggest percentage gain in over four months, as positive earnings and waning trade jitters buoyed investor confidence.

Escalating tariff rhetoric cooled down on news that Beijing will send a delegation to Washington to help resolve the growing trade conflict between the world’s two largest economies.

“The market’s getting a boost with some prominent companies coming in with some decent earnings, such as Walmart,” said Chuck Carlson, chief executive officer at Horizon Investment Services in Hammond, Indiana. “But I think this also shows the schizophrenic nature of the market when short-term market action is pegged so closely to trade wars and tariff talks, especially with China.” [ Source: Reuters (Read More…) ]
