(Worthy News) – The Islamic State extremist group has up to 30,000 members roughly equally distributed between Syria and Iraq and its global network poses a rising threat — as does al-Qaeda, which is much stronger in places, a United Nations report says.

The report by UN experts circulated Monday said that despite the defeat of IS in Iraq and most of Syria, it is likely that a reduced “covert version” of the militant group’s “core” will survive in both countries, with significant affiliated supporters in Afghanistan, Libya, Southeast Asia and West Africa.

The experts said al-Qaeda’s global network also “continues to show resilience,” with its affiliates and allies much stronger than IS in some spots, including Somalia, Yemen, South Asia and Africa’s Sahel region. [ Source: Times of Israel (Read More…) ]

(Worthy News) – U.S. Congress members are calling on Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to hold his party accountable and oppose violent attacks on Christians and other minorities.

International Christian Concern shared on Friday with The Christian Post a previously unreleased copy of a bipartisan congressional letter sent to Modi, which pleads for the protection of the persecuted minorities.

“Our hope is to apply significant pressure on Prime Minister Modi regarding the persecution of Christians and religious minorities in India. We hope that this letter, alongside other efforts, will pressure the Indian government to move beyond the recognition of the fact that persecution of religious minorities in India exists, and take concrete steps to end the persecution of religious minorities,” ICC Advocacy Director Matias Perttula told CP. (Worthy News) – The Trump administration is working to grow the U.S. military into a “more lethal and resilient force,” signing off on an increase of more than 15,600 troops across the military branches and a pay raise for soldiers, according to the White House.

The Trump administration on Monday signed a massive military spending package that includes $716 billion for national defense in the next fiscal year, the White House announced.

The annual defense bill, known as the National Defense Authorization Act, or NDAA, “helps develop a more lethal and resilient force, and grows the size of our forces by authorizing an increase of 15,600 troops across the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marine Corps,” according to a release by the White House. (Worthy News) – West Virginia’s House of Delegates voted to impeach three Supreme Court of Appeals judges Monday on allegations they wasted more than $3 million in taxpayer funds.

State lawmakers were considering whether to put the entire court on trial after all four of the state’s highest judges have been charged with “unnecessary and lavish” spending of tax dollars to renovate their offices in the state Capitol, The Charleston Gazette-Mail reported.

Justices Allen Loughry and Robin Davis, who were both suspended last week, are expected to face an impeachment trial in the state Senate for allegedly taking part in the office renovation scheme, which included spending $32,000 for a couch and $42,000 for a desk. [ Source: UPI (Read More…) ]

(Worthy News) – Banks have been warned of an imminent threat that their cash machines could be mass-hacked by cyber criminals.

In a confidential alert on Friday, America’s Federal Bureau of Investigation told international banks that criminals are plotting a concerted global malware attack on cash machines in the next few days.

The FBI issued a warning about a highly choreographed fraud scheme known as an ATM “jackpotting”, in which crooks hack a bank or payment card processor and use cloned cards at cash machines around the world to take out millions in just a few minutes. [ Source: UK Telegraph (Read More…) ]
