Bolton Says International Criminal Court is ‘Illegitimate’

(Worthy News) – The United States is already not party to the International Criminal Court, but in a striking decision announced Monday by National Security Advisor John Bolton the Trump administration said it would not cooperate at all with the tribunal – and will moreover take punitive steps against it if it goes after U.S. or allied nationals.

Describing the ICC as “ineffective, unaccountable and indeed, outright dangerous,” Bolton said in a speech to the Federalist Society that the U.S. “will use any means necessary to protect our citizens and those of our allies from unjust prosecution by this illegitimate court.”

He said if the court proceeds with investigations into alleged wrongdoing by U.S. forces in Afghanistan, or takes action against Israel or other U.S. allies, “we will not sit quietly.” [ Source: CNS News (Read More…) ]

Pacific island chain asks Trump to declare emergency as typhoon strikes

(Worthy News) – The governor of the Northern Mariana Islands has urged US President Donald Trump to declare a state of emergency as a typhoon struck the US Western Pacific territories overnight and caused blackouts and damaged buildings.

Typhoon Mangkhut passed through the US Pacific archipelago with speeds of over 100 mph (160 kph) and a team from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) was on Tuesday carrying out an initial damage assessment.

Guam is home to US air force and naval bases and an estimated 7,000 troops. A two-week exercise “Valiant Shield” involving thousands of US personnel based in the Western Pacific region had been due to start on Monday. [ Source: Jerusalem Post (Read More…) ]

An ‘Obvious Act of Deception’: Kamala Harris, Planned Parenthood Called Out for Misquoting Kavanaugh on Birth Control

(Worthy News) – Senator Kamala Harris, D-Calif., and Planned Parenthood are garnering criticism for misquoting Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh’s testimony regarding religious groups being compelled to support coverage for abortion-inducing drugs.

Last Friday, Sen. Harris posted a short of Kavanaugh testifying at the Senate Judiciary hearing, claiming that the comments he made showed that he considered birth control to be the same as abortion.

Kavanaugh, a member of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, had authored a dissent against the court’s decision to reject Priests for Life’s petition for an appeal. He explained during the hearing why he supported the group Priests for Life’s argument that the HHS preventive services mandate violated their religious liberty.

“Under the Religious Freedom Restoration Act, the question was first was this a substantial burden on their religious exercise, and it seemed to me quite clearly it was,” said Kavanaugh. [ Source: Christian Post (Read More…) ]

Expect a Storm Surge of 15-20 Feet in a Landfalling Category 4 Storm in the Carolinas

(Worthy News) – Landfalling Category 4 hurricanes are rare in the mainland U.S., with just 24 such landfalls since 1851—an average of one every seven years. Category 5 landfalls are rarer still, with just three on record. All but three of these 27 landfalls by Cat 4s and Cat 5s have occurred south of South Carolina’s latitude, so Florence will be in very select company if it manages to make landfall at Category 4 strength in North or South Carolina.

If Florence hits the coast of North or South Carolina as a Category 3 or stronger hurricane, we should expect to see record storm surge heights, with a 15-20 foot surge very possible, according to two experts.

Dr. Robert Young, professor of Coastal Geology at Western Carolina University, says that “the track of Hurricane Florence, combined with its expected size and strength at landfall and the unique coastal geomorphology of the region, is likely to result in a record storm surge along portions of the warning area.” [ Source: Weather (Read More…) ]

Iran Vows Strikes Outside Borders, ‘Beyond the Seas’

(Worthy News) – A top Iranian military leader warned on Monday that Iran is plotting strikes outside of its own borders and will even go “beyond the seas” to carry out attacks on those it perceives as enemies, statements that further highlight Iran’s clandestine operations inside the United States and in Europe.

“We warn the enemies of the Islamic Revolution that if they make an aggression against the Islamic Iran, we will chase and punish them not only outside the borders but also beyond the seas,” General Yahya Rahim Safavi, a top aide to Iran’s Supreme Leader, was quoted as saying on Monday in remarks in Tehran.

The comments come just days after Iran’s Revolution Guard Corps, or IRGC, launched a missile strike in Iraq’s Kurdistan region. Iran has promised further strikes in that country. [ Source: Washington Free Beacon (Read More…) ]
