Kenya: Al-Shabaab Executed Two Christian Bus Passengers

(Worthy News) – On September 14, seven al-Shabaab terrorists stopped a bus heading to Garrissa. They made the passengers get off of the bus and then forced them to show their identification cards. This is done because Christians and Islamic names are often very evident in countries like Kenya. They then separated three individuals that they believed were not Muslims. They forced them to recite the Islamic Shahada, which is the Islamic statement of Faith. When two of the people could not recite it, they were tied and executed on the spot, according to International Christian Concern.

Al-Shabaab continues to be one of the biggest threats to Kenyan Christians lives. The Somali Based terror group rose to power around 2006, when another group splintered. Since this time, they have become one of the strongest and most active terrorist groups in the world alongside ISIS and Boko Haram. Their aim is to create a caliphate in Eastern Africa that would enforce their extremist views and penalties on all people.

However, they truly become a threat to Kenya after Kenya joined the African Union Mission in Somalia(AMISOM), which had built a coalition aimed at destroying al-Shabaab. The terrorist group then decided that it need to attack Kenya on its home front. This was meant to deter the Kenyan government’s ability and desire to continue fighting in Somalia. However, al-Shabaab’s main target in Kenya have not only been military and government personnel, but also Christian citizens. They have on a number of occasions picked Christians out of groups and executed them in front of the others there. This happened in 2014 at Garissa University where more than 130 Christians were slain. It also happens regularly in Lamu and Mandera counties.

ICC is following up with the families of these two martyrs. This group’s intense hatred and violence has caused massive pain for many families and friends of Christians like these two. The Kenyan and Somali Governments must continue to work to end the horrible atrocities that this evil organization commits and protect the lives of Christians in Kenya

Carolina Brace for More Flooding As Florence Moves Inland

(Worthy News) – North and South Carolina continue to recover after Florence dumped over 20 inches of rain in some areas, which claimed the lives of at least 31 people.

Nonprofit groups are preparing to serve tens of thousands of meals daily in the most-damaged areas, while state and federal emergency officials are locating temporary housing, including hotel rooms, for storm victims in the weeks or months that they’re displaced.

“We are expecting several more days of rain, and our focus now is getting people away from immediate danger,” North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper said as the relenting storm puttered slowly west near the South Carolina border. “And then we will shift into putting our communities back together.” [ Source: Fox News (Read More…) ]

Showdown between Kavanaugh, accuser scheduled for next week

(Worthy News) – Republicans are forging ahead with plans for a Senate hearing they had hoped to avoid on a woman’s claims that Brett Kavanaugh sexually assaulted her when both were high schoolers, hoping to salvage his endangered Supreme Court nomination with a risky, nationally televised showdown between the judge and his accuser.

Republicans reversed course and agreed to the hearing in the face of growing demands by GOP senators to hear directly from Kavanaugh and Christine Blasey Ford, now a psychology professor in California. Their sworn testimony, certain to be conflicting and emotive, will offer a campaign-season test of the political potency of a #MeToo movement that has already toppled prominent men from entertainment, government and journalism.

Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, said his panel would hold a hearing next Monday with both Kavanaugh and Ford “to provide ample transparency” and “give these recent allegations a full airing.” [ Source: Washington Times (Read More…) ]

Russian Plane Mistakenly Shot Down by Syria Anti-Aircraft Artillery During Israeli Strike

(Worthy News) – During an alleged Israeli airstrike within Syria, Russia claims one of its military aircraft disappeared with 14 people on board.

The plane was over the Mediterranean Sea roughly 20 miles from the Syrian coastline when it disappeared from radar, the Russian defense ministry stated.

“The trace of the Il-20 on flight control radars disappeared during an attack by four Israeli F-16 jets on Syrian facilities in Latakia province,” according to a statement released by the Russian defense ministry.

The plane used for electronic reconnaissance was believed to be mistakenly shot down by Syrian anti-aircraft artillery, according to a “U.S. official with knowledge of the incident”.

When asked about the reported Israeli airstrike and the downed Russian plane an Israeli military spokesman stated, “We don’t comment on foreign reports.”

Europe’s New Copyright Law Could Change the Web Worldwide

(Worthy News) – The European Parliament passed sweeping copyright legislation Wednesday that, much like its privacy regulations, could have impact far beyond Europe.

Critics argue that the most controversial part of the proposal will effectively force all but the smallest website operators to adopt “upload filters” similar to those used by YouTube, and apply them to all types of content, to stop users from uploading copyrighted works. That could pose problems, given how expensive such filters could be to develop, and the high likelihood of false positives.

The legislation will also require site owners to pay for displaying snippets of content. Critics have called this a “link tax,” though links and search engine listings are exempted from the requirement. [ Source: Wired News (Read More…) ]

U.S.-backed Syrian forces launch offensive on last ISIS bastion

(Worthy News) – A major offensive launched by U.S.-backed Syrian forces in the country’s east will likely lead to the downfall of Islamic State’s last major stronghold, but will not spell the end of the extremist group, analysts believe.

Backed by the U.S. coalition, the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) launched an assault on the last remaining pockets of Islamic State (ISIS) territory in the villages near the city of Deir ez-Zor and the eastern bank of the Euphrates River where the terrorist group’s leaders, including Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, are believed to be hiding.

The SDF, made up of Kurdish and Arab militias, is engaged in intense clashes with thousands of ISIS fighters near Hajin and other nearby villages as they increase pressure on the extremist group by pushing deeper into ISIS-held territory. The U.S. coalition has been supporting the offensive via air attacks and artillery strikes. [ Source: Jerusalem Post (Read More…) ]

(Worthy News) – President Trump on Monday ordered the Justice Department and FBI to immediately declassify key documents related to the FBI’s investigation on Russian actions during the 2016 presidential election — including text messages from former FBI Director James Comey and other top officials.

The demand for declassification, announced by White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders in a statement, comes roughly two weeks after a dozen Republican lawmakers called on the president to do it.

The process to declassify will likely not be immediate, as the documents still have to be examined by the Justice Department, FBI and Office of the Director of National Intelligence. [ Source: Washington Examiner (Read More…) ]

Putin-Erdogan deal on Syria demilitarized zone heads off showdown, pending bloodbath

(Worthy News) – Russian President Vladimir Putin said Monday that he had struck a deal with Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan to table a planned offensive against the Syrian rebel stronghold of Idlib, a last-minute agreement that led all sides of the 7-year-old conflict to breathe a sigh of relief despite a host of unanswered questions about whether the so-called demilitarized zone will hold.

Regional analysts welcomed the accord but said it also underscored the sidelining of the U.S. in the Syrian endgame. Talks among Russia, Turkey and Iran have largely set the terms for what could be the climactic battle of the Syrian civil war.

Emerging from a high-stakes meeting in Sochi, Mr. Putin and Mr. Erdogan said they would designate and enforce a demilitarized zone roughly 9 to 12 miles deep in Idlib. [ Source: Washington Times (Read More…) ]
