Christian conservatives believe in Trump’s power to turn away a Democratic ‘blue wave’

(Worthy News) – Predictions of a looming Democratic “blue wave” haven’t soured Christian conservative activists, who say President Trump has notched so many surprise wins that they have faith he will again defy the naysayers and deliver Republican victories in November.

Leaders on the religious right are more measured, saying Republican control of the House is very much in jeopardy and warning the Republican faithful not to become overconfident in Mr. Trump’s ability to deliver the impossible.

The midterms could be much closer than many expect, Tony Perkins, head of the Family Research Council, told reporters last week. “I think what you are going to see is a blue trickle,” he said. “I don’t think you are going to see a red wave.” [ Source: Washington Times (Read More…) ]

Israeli Expert Fears Russia Seeking to ‘Change Rules of the Game’ in Syria

(Worthy News) – Veteran Israeli analysts believe President Vladimir Putin is exploiting the downing of a Russian plane in order to change the rules of the game in Syria, and that the US has abandoned Israel on the issue of Iranian entrenchment in the war-torn country.

Last week, Israel presented evidence to the Russian army that the plane in question was in fact downed by Syrian forces, but Russia later rejected the claim and blamed the Jewish state for the loss.

According to analyst Amir Bohbot, Putin is now using the incident to shore up his damaged prestige as a result of recent Israeli actions against Iran in Syria. [ Source: Algemeiner (Read More…) ]

Syria fired missiles for 40 minutes after Israeli strike, hitting Russian plane

(Worthy News) – The Israeli report into the downing a Russian plane off the coast of Syria during an Israeli airstrike on Monday runs some 40 pages in English and Russian and shows that Syrian anti-aircraft batteries fired dozens of barrages indiscriminately for 40 minutes after the initial Israeli attack.

In a highly unusual move, the IDF acknowledged the airstrike and released some of the findings of its initial investigation, which concluded that Syrian air defense units fired without aiming and “did not bother to ensure that no Russian planes were in the air.”

The IDF’s initial findings were presented in recent days by top Israeli officials, including the head of its air force, Maj. Gen. Amikam Norkin, to their Russian counterparts in Moscow, and both Israel and Russia said Syria, not Israel, was responsible for the downing of the plane, although Moscow has been publicly critical of Israel over the incident. As Senate Hearing Set for Kavanaugh, Second Accuser Comes Out

(Worthy News) – The Senate Judiciary Committee scheduled a hearing Thursday for Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh and Christine Blasey Ford, a woman who says he sexually assaulted her as a teenager, as a claim of sexual misconduct emerged from another woman.

The New Yorker magazine reported Sunday night that Senate Democrats were investigating a second woman’s accusation of sexual misconduct by Kavanaugh dating to the 1983-84 academic year, Kavanaugh’s first at Yale University.

In a statement provided by the White House, Kavanaugh said the event “did not happen” and that the allegation was “a smear, plain and simple.” A White House spokeswoman added in a second statement that the allegation was “designed to tear down a good man.” [ Source: CBN News (Read More…) ]

Trump border wall going up in Texas

(Worthy News) – The United States was to begin construction in Texas on Saturday of part of President Donald Trump’s border wall designed to curb illegal immigration, which he calls a security threat.

Running along four miles (six kilometers) of the 2,000-mile border with Mexico, the new section will replace existing fencing along the boundary between El Paso, Texas, and Ciudad Juarez, Mexico, US Customs and Border Protection said in a statement.

“This new wall will be far more durable and far more effective in deterring would-be illegal entrants,” Aaron Hull, Chief Patrol Agent in the El Paso sector, said in the statement. [ Source: AFP (Read More…) ]

Mike Pompeo blasts Russia: ‘They have not proven helpful’ anywhere in the world

(Worthy News) – Russia has worked against U.S. interests in Ukraine, Syria, and in other hot spots across the globe, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said in a blistering takedown of Moscow that comes on the eve of a key United Nations summit in New York City.

In an interview with NBC’s “Meet the Press” that airs Sunday morning, Mr. Pompeo said the Trump administration so far has not been successful in pushing back against many of Russia’s destabilizing actions around the world. Russia is backing dictator Bashar Assad’s forces in Syria, forcibly annexed the Crimea region of Ukraine, and has taken a host of other steps that are in direct opposition to U.S. foreign policy interests.

“Meet the Press” host Chuck Todd made the case that Russia has not been helpful on any international front anywhere in the world, and Mr. Pompeo agreed. [ Source: Washington Times (Read More…) ]

Pompeo: No end to NKorea sanctions until ‘denuclearization’

(Worthy News) – Top U.S. diplomat Mike Pompeo said Sunday that economic sanctions on North Korea won’t be reduced until it completes “denuclearization” after leader Kim Jong Un offered to close the North’s main nuclear site in exchange for U.S. concessions.

Kim said last week at a summit with South Korea’s president that he was willing to dismantle the Nyongbyon nuclear complex in the presence of outside inspectors if the U.S. takes unspecified “corresponding measures.” He also promised to dismantle the North’s main rocket launch site.

That has helped revive U.S.-North Korea diplomacy that had failed to make headway since President Donald Trump met Kim in Singapore in June and won a vague commitment on denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula. But U.S. administration officials have yet to signal a readiness to provide the kind of incentives that Pyongyang wants. [ Source: Washington Times (Read More…) ]
