Trump questions why FBI informant received payments from government

(Worthy News) – President Trump on Tuesday asked why an FBI source who met with some members of his 2016 campaign was paid by the government, arguing the informant was “there to spy for political purposes.”

“If the person placed very early into my campaign wasn’t a SPY put there by the previous Administration for political purposes, how come such a seemingly massive amount of money was paid for services rendered – many times higher than normal,” Trump wrote on Twitter Tuesday.

“…Follow the money!” Trump continued in a separate tweet. “The spy was there early in the campaign and yet never reported Collusion with Russia, because there was no Collusion. He was only there to spy for political reasons and to help Crooked Hillary win – just like they did to Bernie Sanders, who got duped!” [ Source: Washington Examiner (Read More…) ]

UN chief urges Lebanon’s Hezbollah to halt military action

(Worthy News) – Secretary-General Antonio Guterres strongly criticized Hezbollah for operating as the most heavily armed militia and a political party in Lebanon and urged the militant group to halt military activities inside and outside the country, including in Syria.

In a report to the Security Council obtained Monday by The Associated Press, Guterres also called on Lebanon’s government and armed forces “to take all measures necessary to prohibit Hezbollah and other armed groups from acquiring weapons and building paramilitary capacity” outside the authority of the state.

He said Hezbollah’s military activity violates a 2004 Security Council resolution ordering all Lebanese militias to disarm and the Taif Accords that ended the country’s 1975-90 civil war. [ Source: Ynet News (Read More…) ]

Israel is first country to use US-made F-35 fighter jet in combat, IAF chief says

(Worthy News) – Israel is the first country in the world to have flown the U.S.-made F-35 stealth fighter jet in combat, the commander of the Israeli air force said on Tuesday in remarks carried by the IDF’s official Twitter account.

Local media further quoted Maj. Gen. Amikam Norkin as saying in a speech to the chiefs of 20 foreign air forces convening in Israel: “We are flying the F-35 all over the Middle East and have already attacked twice on two different fronts.”

IAF commander: Israel still striking targets in Syria

(Worthy News) – Israeli jets have continued to strike targets in Syria following the recent Iranian missile barrage against IDF posts in the Golan Heights, a senior Israel Air Force officer said on Tuesday.

“We can assume that there have been strikes since the last events in Syria. We have maintained our freedom of action over Syria,” he said during the Senior Air Force Conference in Herzliya.

Stressing that Israel will continue to carry out air strikes in the war-torn country, he said that Israel will continue to work with “determination” to thwart the entrenchment of Iran in Syria and the arming of Hezbollah. [ Source: Jerusalem Post (Read More…) ]

U.S. warplanes take out ISIS sleeper cell in Iraq

(Worthy News) – U.S. and allied warplanes destroyed an Islamic State sleeper cell near the terror group’s former stronghold of Mosul Tuesday, ending with roughly 12 jihadists dead, military officials in Baghdad say.

The strikes targeted a segment of underground bunkers and tunnels used by Islamic State, or ISIS, fighters to defend the northern Iraqi city against Iraqi troops, backed by U.S. and coalition airpower, during last year’s offensive to retake Mosul.

The recent airstrikes come amid questions whether the White House and the Pentagon will maintain its military presence in Iraq to support Baghdad’s efforts to stamp out remaining ISIS cells, or withdraw U.S. troops from the country. The Trump administration has already indicated its desire to scale back American military forces battling the Islamic State in Syria. [ Source: Washington Times (Read More…) ]

Local residents said the strikes destroyed a boat moored in Gaza City, with no reports of casualties. They said the boat, which was set ablaze, was due to sail to meet a flotilla of boats hoping to reach Gaza.

The IDF did not provide further details regarding the nature of the underground infrastructure. [ Source: Jerusalem Post (Read More…) ]

Media insist: FBI’s source on Trump was an ‘informant,’ not a ‘spy’

(Worthy News) – News reports have revealed the identity of a Cambridge University professor who fed information about the Trump campaign to the FBI but the national media have consistently declined to characterize the activity as spying, and are actively rejecting President Trump’s push to call it spying.

“A lot of people are saying they had spies in my campaign,” President Trump told reporters Tuesday at the White House. “If they had spies in my campaign that would be a disgrace to this country.” He added that it “would be one of the biggest insults anyone has ever seen” if it were confirmed that spies working under the Obama administration had infiltrated his campaign, which he described as “very illegal.”

The Washington Post’s report on those comments said Trump was making a reference to a “confidential source” who the FBI used to “aid its investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election.” But the story disputed Trump’s suggestion that the FBI may have secretly spied on his campaign, and said there’s “no evidence to suggest that the source was inserted into the Trump campaign…” [ Source: Washington Examiner (Read More…) ]

Stacey Abrams wins as Democrats bet on new strategies and voters

(Worthy News) – Georgia’s battle of the “Staceys” barely qualified as a minor skirmish, as Stacey Abrams cruised to an historic landslide victory over Stacey Evans in the Democratic primary, becoming the first black woman nominated by her party for governor.

Abrams, a former state house minority leader, crushed Evans, a sitting state lawmaker, winning nearly 76 percent of the vote. She rolled out to a commanding early lead and never looked back. While Abrams will have a more difficult time against the eventual Republican nominee — that race is headed toward a runoff, with front-runner Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle failing to break 50 percent in a multi-candidate field — it shows that Democrats are trying new paths to win.

Not long ago, a white, relatively centrist woman like Stacey Evans might have been seen as the past way forward for Democrats in a state like Georgia. As recently as 2014, for example, the party nominated Michelle Nunn for Senate against Republican Sen. Saxby Chambliss (she lost). Her father, longtime Sen. Sam Nunn, was fairly conservative by national party standards. [ Source: Washington Examiner (Read More…) ]

Why Jesus Is No Longer the Only Way for Many American Christians

(Worthy News) – Just over two months ago, as winter landed its final blows of snow in New York City, Michael A. Walrond Jr. of Harlem’s 10,000-member First Corinthian Baptist Church landed an ideological blow of his own in traditional Christendom.

Walrond, who was named “One of the Lord’s Foot Soldiers” by Newsweek magazine, told his congregants that the belief that anyone who doesn’t believe in Jesus is going to hell is “insanity.”

“There was a time when you would see people in the pulpit say, ‘well, if you don’t believe in Jesus you going to Hell. That’s insanity in many ways because that is not what Jesus even believes,” he said in a viral clip posted to Facebook. [ Source: Christian Post (Read More…) ]
