U.K.’s May Faces Biggest Crisis as Confidence Vote Reports Swirl

(Worthy News) – Theresa May faces the greatest crisis of her turbulent time as U.K. prime minister, with growing media reports that Conservative lawmakers were on the brink of forcing a confidence vote in her leadership.

On Tuesday evening, only one person knew for sure whether enough Tory members of Parliament had written letters demanding a vote to trigger one: Graham Brady, the party official who receives them and needs to inform the prime minister when her job is indeed on the line.

As the U.K. faced the prospect of more political uncertainty less than four months before it is due to leave the European Union, the pound fell to its lowest level against the dollar since April 2017. If the Conservatives do hold a confidence vote this week, it would take place while she’s meeting EU leaders in Brussels. [ Source: Bloomberg (Read More…) ]

Netanyahu: Hezbollah will get ‘unimaginable blow’ if it attacks

(Worthy News) – Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who visited the north Tuesday for the second time in less than a week, said that the uncovering of the third Hezbollah attack tunnel is part of the process of “systematically dismantling” these weapons.

Netanyahu said that Hezbollah will “make a big mistake” if it tries to harm IDF soldiers or resist the army’s operation to expose the tunnels, and would receive a blow “that it cannot even imagine.”

Netanyahu and Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen Gadi Eisenkot held a security assessment with OC Northern Command Maj.-Gen Yoel Strick, and other senior officers. Netanyahu also met brigade and battalion commanders and soldiers involved in the operation, and then with local authority heads in the north. [ Source: Jerusalem Post (Read More…) ]

IDF unearths third tunnel, Hezbollah releases photos of operation

(Worthy News) – Israel’s military announced that a third Hezbollah tunnel was unearthed on Tuesday, just hours after dozens of close-up pictures and videos of IDF troops taking part in Operation Northern Shield were released by Hezbollah including a map indicating where Israel’s military is currently operating.

“Hezbollah’s war media department launched an intensified campaign to show the weakness and fragility of the Israeli army, shooting the enemy soldiers from rear positions, which shows that the Resistance soldiers can infiltrate into their positions and capture them,” read a report by the Lebanese al-Manar website.

“The Israeli soldiers deployed on the border with Lebanon have become a joke as the Lebanese public enjoyed making fun of them,” it continued adding that the “Hezbollah phantom is always haunting the Israelis, imposing on them certain formulas which they would never have followed. Pakistan rejects US rebuke on religious freedoms

(Worthy News) – Pakistan on Wednesday condemned a U.S. decision to add it to a list of nations that infringe on religious freedom, calling the move “unilateral and politically motivated.”

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo added Pakistan to the U.S. list of “countries of particular concern” regarding protection for people to worship according to their beliefs. It was previously on a special watch list. The downgrade would expose Pakistan to potential American sanctions, but Pompeo waived those penalties, citing U.S. national interests.

In recent years Islamic extremists have repeatedly attacked religious minorities in Pakistan, including Shiite Muslims and Christians. Members of the Ahmadi sect face heavy discrimination and are subject to restrictions stemming from a 1984 law that forbids them from “posing as Muslims.” [ Source: Washington Times (Read More…) ]

‘This has spiraled downward’: Trump, top Democrats put raw partisan divide on full display

(Worthy News) – President Trump and congressional Democratic leaders ripped off the bandage over their raw, partisan disagreements Tuesday in open bickering that offered a glimpse of the divided government to come in the next two years.

During a White House meeting intended to seek common ground to avoid a partial government shutdown next week, the president and incoming House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Democratic leader Charles Schumer instead squabbled over funding for the border wall, traded blame for the last shutdown and jousted over which party commands the stronger political hand since the mid-term elections.

“Unfortunately, this has spiraled downward,” Mrs. Pelosi told the president as their quarreling grew more intense in the Oval Office, which was adorned incongruously with festive holiday decorations. [ Source: Washington Times (Read More…) ]

Trump stares down Dems in wall fight: ‘Proud to shut down the government for border security’

(Worthy News) – President Trump said Tuesday he would be “proud” to shut the government down unless he gets a massive infusion of cash to build his border wall, and suggested if Congress doesn’t concede, he would use the military to erect more fencing anyway.

Democrats on Capitol Hill said the president would be creating a constitutional crisis if he tries to rope the Pentagon into his wall plans over the objection of Congress — and countered with red lines of their own, saying they won’t pony up a single new dollar for Trump-style border security.

The impasse, and a host of other business that’s piled up in recent days, now threaten Congress’s final vacation of the year, as Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said he’s prepared to keep his troops in town between Christmas and New Year’s if they can’t get their work done before then. More than 3,000 illegals caught in one day: DHS

(Worthy News) – The government snared more than 3,000 immigrants who illegally attempting to cross into the U.S. in just one day last week, the Trump administration’s top border official told Congress on Tuesday, saying the situation qualifies as a full-blown “crisis.”

Kevin K. McAleenan, commissioner of U.S. Customs and Border Protection, said the majority were traveling as families and another 350 were children traveling without parents.

Between those and the children who came as part of families, that means more than 1,100 juveniles caught that day were forced to make a treacherous journey he said that often involves sexual abuse and other trauma. [ Source: Washington Times (Read More…) ]

Christian groups win Obamacare birth control battle

(Worthy News) – Christian organizations do not need to comply with Obamacare’s birth control mandate, a federal judge ruled Tuesday.

Judge Philip Brimmer of the U.S. District Court for the District of Colorado ordered that the federal government cannot enforce the provision, which obligates employers to pay for health insurance for their workers that covers all forms of contraception without a copay.

Brimmer, an appointee of former President George W. Bush, determined that the rule violated rights established by the Religious Freedom Restoration Act. [ Source: Washington Examiner (Read More…) ]

Trump Admin. Declares War on Russian, Chinese, Iranian Propaganda

(Worthy News) – The State Department has launched a new effort to counter propaganda and disinformation campaigns launched across the globe by a host of rogue nations, including Russia, China, and Iran, according to senior U.S. officials who briefed the Washington Free Beacon on the new undertaking, which they say will put the United States “on the offense” against these countries.

The State Department’s Global Engagement Center, or GEC, which just received a $40 million cash influx, is refocusing its priorities on what senior Trump administration officials described as a global battle against propaganda that undermines the U.S. role in the world and its national security priorities.

As the Trump administration undertakes efforts domestically to address Russian election meddling as well as efforts by Iran and China to disrupt the American political landscape, the GEC will focus outside the U.S. borders to disrupt a range of disinformation operations by rogue nations seeking to increase their influence in regional hotspots.
