‘Jesus Take the Wheel’: Muslim Congresswoman Mocks Pence’s Faith in Viral Tweet

(Worthy News) – A recently elected female congresswoman is facing backlash for mocking Vice President Mike Pence on Twitter.

Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) posted a photo of Pence in the Oval Office with his eyes closed during a meeting between Trump and Democrat leaders this week about the border wall.

Omar captioned the photo with the phrase, “Jesus take the wheel,” which originated from a popular country song from Carrie Underwood. [ Source: CBN News (Read More…) ]

U.S. federal judge rules Obamacare unconstitutional

(Worthy News) – A federal judge in Texas on Friday ruled the Affordable Care Act, commonly known as Obamacare, was unconstitutional based on its mandate requiring that people buy health insurance, a decision in a case that could reach the U.S. Supreme Court.

U.S. District Judge Reed O’Connor in Fort Worth agreed with a coalition of 20 states that a change in tax law last year eliminating a penalty for not having health insurance invalidated the entire Obamacare law.

O’Connor ruled that under the logic of the landmark 2012 Supreme Court ruling that upheld the law, the individual mandate, which required that most Americans obtain health insurance or pay a tax, is now unconstitutional. [ Source: Reuters (Read More…) ]

Saudi Arabia slams US resolution blaming crown prince for Khashoggi murder

(Worthy News) – Saudi Arabia has “categorically” rejected a resolution from the US Senate blaming Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman for the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi, and another to end American military support for a Riyadh-led war in Yemen.

“The kingdom categorically rejects any interference in its internal affairs, any and all accusations … that disrespect its leadership … and any attempts to undermine its sovereignty or diminish its stature,” read a statement from the Saudi Foreign Ministry released early Monday.

In addition to the Khashoggi vote on Thursday, the upper house of the US Congress also passed the resolution ordering the US to cease cooperation with the Saudi-led bombing campaign in Yemen that has devastated the civilian population there. [ Source: Deutche Welle (Read More…) ]

New Brexit vote would ‘break faith’ with British, says May

(Worthy News) – Prime Minister Theresa May will state her opposition to a second Brexit referendum on Monday, telling parliament such a vote would “break faith” with British people and do “irreparable damage” to politics.

With May facing deadlock in parliament over her deal to leave the European Union and the bloc offering little in the way of concessions to win lawmakers over, more politicians are calling for a second referendum to break the impasse.

But May and her ministers have ruled out a new ballot, saying it would deepen already ugly divisions over Britain’s biggest decision since World War Two and betray voters who narrowly backed leaving the EU at a 2016 referendum.

Erdogan: Turkey plans military operation in Syria in a ‘few days’

(Worthy News) – Turkey will start a new military operation in Syria east of the Euphrates river “in a few days,” Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan said Wednesday, a move that could further complicate relations with the United States.

Ankara and Washington have long been at odds over Syria, where the US backed the YPG Kurdish militia in the fight against Islamic State group (ISIS) insurgents. Turkey says the YPG is a terrorist organisation and an extension of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK), which has waged an insurgency against the state in southeastern Turkey for 34 years.

Turkey has already intervened to sweep YPG fighters from territory west of the Euphrates in military campaigns over the past two years, but up until now, it had not gone east of the river—partly to avoid direct confrontation with US forces. [ Source: Ynet News (Read More…) ]

‘Hezbollah evades Israeli bombs in Syria by flying Russian flag’

(Worthy News) – Moscow is allowing fighters from Hezbollah and other pro-Iranian Shiite groups operating in Syria to carry Russian flags in order to protect them from Israeli airstrikes, Russia’s Kommersant newspaper reported Wednesday.

The report follows a Russian snub earlier this week to Israeli military officials, as Moscow appears reluctant to ease its anger over the loss of one of its planes during an IAF bombing raid in Syria in September. The plane was brought down by Syrian missiles targeting the Israelis, but Moscow insists that Jerusalem did not provide sufficient warning of its strike to allow its aircraft to reach safety.

Russian flags were recently seen near the military airport in the Syrian city of Hama, where Iranian installations were attacked by the IAF in the past. The flags were also flying in the cities of Homs and Idlib, as well as in the Syrian desert. [ Source: Ynet News (Read More…) ]

U.S. Makes Great Strides to Help Iraqi Christians, More Remains to Be Done

(Worthy News) – Over the past year, the United States has taken steps to aid Christians driven from their homes in Iraq after ISIS swept through the region. Nevertheless, much remains to be done to rebuild the communities of Christians, Yazidis, and other religious minorities.

Earlier this week, President Donald Trump signed into law the Iraq and Syria Genocide Relief and Accountability Act, which will help the United States channel humanitarian and rebuilding assistance to Christians and other religious minorities in Iraq and Syria.

Approximately one million Christians have left Iraq since 2002, leaving fewer than 250,000, most in the Nineveh Plains and Iraqi Kurdistan regions. As of June, 39,914 individual Christians and 8,815 families had returned to the Nineveh Plains, and 4,765 houses had been restored, according to the Nineveh Reconstruction Committee. By early November, an additional 200 individuals and families had returned, and another 1,000 homes had been restored. More than half of the Christians living in the region prior to the rise of ISIS have still not returned. [ Source: Washington Free Beacon (Read More…) ]

Dems defy Trump shutdown threat: ‘He is not going to get the wall in any form’

(Worthy News) – Democrats dug in their heels Sunday on President Trump’s threat to shut down the government unless he gets money for his border wall, saying if the president makes good on his demand, the American people will suffer.

But the White House contends American citizens are already suffering — with or without a shutdown — because of the rise in illegal immigration.

The two sides showed no sign of willingness to compromise Sunday, with just four days left to broker an agreement before the federal government partially shuts down. [ Source: Washington Times (Read More…) ]
