Trump: We give Israel billions, it can defend itself in Syria

(Worthy News) – US President Donald Trump on Wednesday said he was not worried that pulling troops out of Syria could endanger Israel, citing vast American military aid to the Jewish state and saying it could defend itself.

Trump made the comments while on a surprise trip to Iraq — marking the president’s first official visit to a conflict zone — where he defended his controversial decision last week to remove US military forces from Syria, where they been leading the coalition to fight the Islamic State terror group.

Speaking with reporters, Trump was asked about criticism that the move could put Israel in jeopardy by allowing Iran to expand its foothold in Syria. [ Source: Times of Israel (Read More…) ]

EU’s Oettinger sees chance British parliament votes for Brexit deal in January

(Worthy News) – European Commissioner Guenther Oettinger said on Thursday there is still a chance that Britain’s parliament will vote in favor of the Brexit agreement in January and that there was no public support for a disorderly Brexit or another referendum.

Prime Minister Theresa May has struck a withdrawal agreement with Brussels but she was forced to postpone a parliamentary vote on it earlier this month after admitting she would lose by a large margin. Britain is due to leave the EU on March 29.

“It is not entirely unlikely that the British parliament will vote for the divorce agreement in January,” Oettinger told Funke Media Group in an interview. “There is certainly no majority for a disorderly Brexit or for a new referendum.” [ Source: Reuters (Read More…) ]

Livni calls on Center-Left to form bloc to take down Netanyahu

(Worthy News) – Opposition leader Tzipi Livni begged her fellow leaders of the Center-Left on Tuesday to act unselfishly in order to defeat Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in the April 9 general election, as two new parties were announced earlier in the day.

Speaking at an event of the Israel Democracy Institute and Interdisciplinary Center, Livni said Attorney-General Avichai Mandelblit’s forthcoming ruling on Netanyahu’s criminal cases could help decide the election and create an opportunity for her camp to win if it handles the race smartly.

“All those who are partners in our path and who declare that they are putting the good of the state first, must also be a partner to unifying us,” Livni said. “We can form a larger, winning team, but all of us must set our egos aside for our joint goal of a political upheaval. We must say first state, then party, then ourselves.” [ Source: Jerusalem Post (Read More…) ]
