House Democrats Are Getting Ready for a Legal Showdown With the Trump Administration

(Worthy News) – Congressional Democrats are moving forward with investigations into Russian meddling and President Donald Trump’s family, setting the stage for a major legal fight with the Administration.

The House Oversight and Judiciary committees — two of the most powerful — announced Monday that they are preparing subpoenas on Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s report on Russian collusion in the 2016 election and security clearance probes that implicate the president’s family.

Rep. Jerrold Nadler, who chairs the Judiciary committee, said Monday that his committee would mark up a subpoena on April 3 to obtain the full Mueller report. Nadler, along with five chairs of other committees, sent a letter to Attorney General William Barr last week demanding they see the full report by Tuesday, April 2. While Barr said he was working to make the report public as soon as possible, he speculated that would not happen until at least mid-April, past the Democrats’ deadline. ‘Unplanned’ makes twice the expected box office sales despite social media censorship

(Worthy News) – The pro-life movie “Unplanned” earned double the box office sales expected for its opening weekend, even while dealing with apparent censorship on social media.

Based on the life of Abby Johnson, a former Planned Parenthood clinic worker turned anti-abortion activist, the movie raked in approximately $6.1 million over the weekend.

This was twice the expected ticket sales, and makes “Unplanned” the third biggest opening weekend film by Pure Flix, behind 2014’s “God’s Not Dead” ($9.2 million) and 2016’s “God’s Not Dead 2” ($7.6 million). [ Source: Christian Post (Read More…) ]

US halts sale of F-35 fighter jet parts to Turkey

(Worthy News) – After months of warnings, the United States has stopped delivery of F-35 fighter jet parts to Turkey in retaliation for Ankara’s decision to move ahead with the purchase of a Russian surface-to-air missile system, the Pentagon said Monday.

Top US government leaders have repeatedly threatened to shut down Turkey’s plan to buy the F-35 advanced fighter aircraft if Turkey didn’t abandon efforts to buy the S-400 Russian system. Halting the delivery of parts and manuals needed to prepare for the aircraft’s planned delivery this summer is the first step toward ending the actual aircraft sale.

“The United States has been clear that Turkey’s acquisition of the S-400 is unacceptable,” said acting Pentagon spokesman Charles Summers Jr. “Until they forgo delivery of the S-400, the United States has suspended deliveries and activities associated with the stand-up of Turkey’s F-35 operational capability. Should Turkey procure the S-400, their continued participation in the F-35 program is at risk.” [ Source: Times of Israel (Read More…) ]

Turkey Faces Political Reset After Erdogan Loses Key Cities

(Worthy News) – Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has suffered his worst electoral setback, with his ruling Justice and Development Party, or AKP, losing control of the capital, Ankara, and seemingly set to lose Istanbul following this past Sunday’s local elections.

In Istanbul, posters that were put up around the city early Monday celebrated the victory of AKP mayoral candidate Binali Yildirim; however, the candidate of the opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP), Ekrem Imamoglu, has the votes and is claiming the win in Istanbul, albeit with a thin margin of victory over Yildirim.

Turkey is in the grip of a recession, with unemployment approaching record numbers and inflation at nearly 20 percent. Food prices are rising by close to 30 percent. [ SourceL VOA News (Read More…) ]

Trump won’t ‘impose the Bibi plan on the Palestinians’

(Worthy News) – President Trump wants an Israeli-Palestinian peace plan “that the Palestinians think is equitable,” according to a U.S. official, notwithstanding his close relationship with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

“The notion that we’re going to impose the Bibi plan on the Palestinians is a non-starter — it wouldn’t work,” a senior administration official told reporters Monday, using Netanyahu’s nickname. “If that was our intent, we would have done it 18 months ago.”

Trump and Netanyahu have worked closely together over the last two years to deliver a series of historic policy shifts, including the relocation of the U.S. embassy in Jerusalem last year. Trump followed that move with the recognition of Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights last week, an attempt to settle a 52-year-old debate over crucial territory taken during the Six-Day War of 1967 and a diplomatic victory for Netanyahu just weeks before the Israeli elections. UK’s May risks ‘total collapse’ of government in Brexit impasse

(Worthy News) – British Prime Minister Theresa May risks the “total collapse” of her government if she fails to get her battered Brexit deal through parliament, the Sunday Times newspaper said, amid growing speculation that she might call an early election.

Underscoring the tough choices facing May to break the Brexit impasse, the newspaper said at least six pro-European Union senior ministers will resign if she opts for a potentially damaging no-deal departure from the EU.

But at the same time, rival ministers who support Brexit were threatening to quit if May decides to stay close to the EU with a customs union or if she sought a long delay to Brexit, the Sunday Times said. [ Source: Reuters (Read More…) ]
