US appeals court rejects Trump administration lawsuit, upholds most of California’s sanctuary laws

(Worthy News) – A federal appeals court on Thursday upheld most of California’s sanctuary laws, ruling a contested measure does not interfere with the enforcement of federal immigration policies in the state.

The U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals rejected the bulk of the Trump administration’s lawsuit in a unanimous decision by a three-judge panel — including an attempt to block the state law that restricts local law enforcement from notifying federal immigration authorities of the release dates of immigrant inmates

The decision upholds most of a lower court ruling from July 2018. The Trump administration sued California over the three state statutes in March 2016, arguing they impeded federal immigration authority. [ Source: USA Today (Read More…) ]

No US, Russia Support for UN Call for Libya Truce

(Worthy News) – The United States and Russia both said Thursday they could not support a United Nations Security Council resolution calling for a cease-fire in Libya at this time, diplomats said, as mortar bombs crashed down on a suburb of the Libyan capital, Tripoli.

Russia objects to the British-drafted resolution blaming eastern Libyan commander Khalifa Haftar for the latest flare-up in violence when his Libyan National Army (LNA) advanced to the outskirts of Tripoli earlier this month, diplomats said.

The United States gave no reason for its position on the draft resolution, which would also call on countries with influence over the warring parties to ensure compliance and for unconditional humanitarian aid access in Libya, which has been gripped by anarchy since Moammar Gadhafi was toppled in 2011. Last Supper site reveals its secrets in stunning 3D laser scans

(Worthy News) – The room venerated as the site of Jesus’ Last Supper has been revealed in stunning detail thanks to remarkable 3D laser scanning technology.

A Christian holy site, the Cenacle (from the Latin for ‘dining room’), is located on the upper floor of the King David’s Tomb complex on Jerusalem’s Mount Zion.

At the apex of one of the room’s arches, the scans reveal an “Agnus Dei” or “Lamb of God” symbol. On a keystone, a carved lion symbol is also visible. “The lion was the symbol of King David,” Re’em explained. “According to the ancient scriptures, Jesus was a descendant of King David.” [ Source: Fox News (Read More…) ]

Activists, journalists detained over Passover sacrifice attempt at Temple Mount

(Worthy News) – Two journalists were among four people arrested on Thursday for covering an attempt to smuggle two baby goats into Jerusalem’s Temple Mount for a ritual sacrifice.

Police said on Thursday that a Jewish adult and a minor intended “to cause provocations” by sacrificing the goats ahead of Passover at the holy site. Two journalists who planned to film the ritual were also detained.

The suspects’ car was stopped and police found two live goats in the trunk, police said. Officers arrested the four occupants, including journalists Hagar Shezaf of Haaretz and Yotam Ronen of Walla News, and seized their equipment, saying it was evidence in the investigation. Iranian-Backed Militias Pick Up Where ISIS Left Off, Terrorizing Iraq’s Christians

(Worthy News) – Since the defeat of ISIS, some Christian families are beginning to move back to their communities in Iraq, however, they are now facing new threats from Iranian-back militia groups, according to a report by CBN News.

But Carl Anderson, CEO of the Knights of Columbus, tells CBN News that with the fall of ISIS, a different menace is now taking its place in Iraq’s Christian towns.

“Iranian-backed militias are occupying many of the formerly Christian towns and making it virtually impossible for Christians to come back in,” Anderson, who just returned from northern Iraq, told CBN News. “What ISIS failed to accomplish, that is to have a religious cleansing of Christians in the area, Iran, through their surrogates, may accomplish still.” [ Source: CBN News (Read More…) ]

Mueller Report Lays Bare Deep US Partisan Divide

(Worthy News) – Democratic and Republican lawmakers had sharply differing reactions to Thursday’s release of special counsel Robert Mueller’s redacted Russia report and what steps, if any, Congress should take next.

Investigators determined no one on Trump’s campaign knowingly conspired with Russians in Moscow’s 2016 election interference, however they declined to exonerate the president on charges that his actions obstructed justice.

In a statement, Oklahoma Republican Sen. James Inhofe described Mueller’s report as “a lot of nothing: no collusion, no obstruction” and accused Democrats of “an effort to smear the president.” [ Source: VOA News (Read More…) ]

Trump to help Iraqi Christians wreak justice on Islamic State militants

(Worthy News) – The Islamic State’s ‘caliphate’ in the heart of the Middle East may be no more, but some Iraqi Christians, with an assist from the Trump administration, want to ensure the group that terrorized their community and other minorities faces justice for its crimes.

The offices of the Shlomo Organization for Documentation are on a busy street in Ankawa, the predominantly Assyrian Christian part of Irbil in Iraq’s Kurdish region. The volunteer staff keeps town-by-town statistics on the number of Iraqi Christian victims of the Islamic State posted on the office walls, and testimonies of the victims’ experiences fill several dozen bulging binders.

Islamic State militants displaced some 60,000 adherents of this ancient Christian offshoot from their historic homeland in the Nineveh Plains when they surged to power in Iraq and Syria in 2014. They killed or kidnapped many others. [ Source: Washington Times (Read More…) ]
