Pompeo declines to reaffirm Trump commitment to two-state solution

(Worthy News) – US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo refused to endorse a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. During a Senate Foreign Relations Committee hearing on Wednesday regarding the State Department 2020 budget request, Pompeo expressed hope that the upcoming peace plan would create the conditions in which Israelis and Palestinians could solve the conflict, but did not provide any specifics.

In a four-minute exchange between Sen. Tim Kaine (D-Virginia) and Pompeo, the two argued about the prospects of an upcoming peace process between Israel and the Palestinians. Kaine pressured Pompeo to declare the US official position is still to back the two-state solution, but Pompeo declined to give a definite answer. [ Source: Jerusalem Post (Read More…) ]

Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine signs ‘heartbeat’ abortion ban

(Worthy News) – Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine, a Republican, signed a bill Thursday to ban abortions once a heartbeat is detected, about five to six weeks into pregnancy, making it one of the most restrictive abortion laws in the country.

The state legislature passed the measures on to the governor Wednesday as anti-abortion and pro-abortion groups clashed outside the state House chamber, chanting opposing slogans so loudly they could be heard across the statehouse.

The Ohio legislature has been drafting the measure for years. Former Republican Gov. John Kasich vetoed similar bills twice in the past on the grounds that he didn’t want to spend taxpayer dollars on exorbitant legal fees to prove the law constitutional. Israeli spacecraft crash lands on moon’s surface

(Worthy News) – An Israeli spacecraft crashed into the moon Thursday just moments before touchdown, failing in an ambitious attempt to make history as the first privately funded lunar landing.

The spacecraft lost communication with ground control during its final descent. Moments later, the mission was declared a failure.

“We definitely crashed on the surface of the moon,” said Opher Doron of Israel Aerospace Industries.

He said the spacecraft’s engine turned off shortly before landing, and scientists were still trying to figure out the cause. The spacecraft, called Beresheet, was in pieces scattered at the landing site, he said. [ Source: Israel Hayom (Read More…) ]
