Netanyahu, Kahlon reportedly plan for possible financial collapse of PA

(Worthy News) – Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Finance Minister Moshe Kahlon have reportedly discussed emergency plans, should the Palestinian Authority’s financial system collapse over its refusal to accept tax dividends collected by Israel, according to television reports Sunday.

The two met Sunday to discuss what plans to put in place and what possible moves would keep the Palestinians solvent, amid fears that financial woes could cripple the Palestinian economy and destabilize the West Bank, according to the reports.

Israel announced in February that it would withhold $138 million in monthly payments to the PA — to offset the PA’s payments to Palestinians jailed by Israel for terrorism and violence, and to the families of dead terrorists. [ Source: Times of Israel (Read More…) ]

Satanic Temple sues Minnesota city over proposed monument

(Worthy News) – The Massachusetts-based Satanic Temple is suing a Minnesota city for withdrawing permission for a satanic monument two years ago, when local government officials got tangled in a debate over religious symbols in public places.

Satanic Temple co-founder Malcolm Jarry told the Star Tribune Saturday that people have a right to protest their proposed monument.

The predicament the city of Belle Plaine finds itself in began in 2017 when officials decided to allow a steel silhouette of a soldier praying over a grave marked with a cross at a veterans’ memorial park. The Satanic Temple wanted its own monument in the park in an area the city designated as a “public forum” after complaints that the soldiers’ monument violated the separation of church and state. Officials shut down the public forum area altogether when complaints followed over the proposed satanic monument. [ Source: Fox News (Read More…) ]

IMF: Iran Inflation Could Reach 40 Percent Amid Sanctions

(Worthy News) – Iran’s economy is expected to shrink by six percent this year and inflation could reach 40 percent, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) forecasts, as the country copes with the impact of tighter U.S. sanctions.

Washington reimposed sanctions on Iran’s oil exports in November following the U.S. withdrawal from a 2015 nuclear accord.

On April 21, the White House said it had decided not to renew exemptions from U.S. sanctions to buyers of Iranian oil in an effort to cut Iran’s vital oil exports to zero. [ Source: Radio Free Europe (Read More…) ]

Saudi Government Claims ‘Terror’ in Slew of Executions Condemned by Rights Groups

by Jordan Hilger, Worthy News Correspondent

(Worthy News) – 37 people in Saudi Arabia were executed Tuesday on terrorism-related charges, according to the Saudi Press Agency, during which ceremony the body of a dead man was later crucified.

Despite avowals from Saudi state media that the accused were “adopting terrorist extremist ideology and forming terrorist cells,” human rights watchdog Amnesty International claimed the brutality was carried out for more nefarious purposes.

“It is…yet another gruesome indication of how the death penalty is being used as a political tool to crush dissent from within the country’s Shi’a minority,” said Lynn Maalouf, Middle East Research Director at Amnesty.

14 of the 37 men put to death Tuesday were apprehended for their participation in anti-government protests in the Eastern Province, the predominantly Shi’ite section of Saudi Arabia, while one expert has claimed, based on an analysis of the names of the condemned, that 34 of the 37 were of Shi’ite extraction.

“They didn’t have to execute these people, but it’s important for them to ride the American anti-Iranian wave,” opined Ali Al-Ahmed, Saudi analyst and head of a Washington think tank, who suspects the Saudi government has been emboldened in its quest for regional hegemony as a result of the U.S. hardening its position toward the Shi’ite Islamic Republic, and is beginning to flex its muscles toward pro-Iran dissidents.

104 people have been executed in Saudi Arabia so far in 2019.

America Outstripped by China and Russia in Hypersonic Weapons Race

by Jordan Hilger, Worthy News Correspondent

(Worthy News) – The U.S. is lagging behind China in its development of hypersonic weapons technologies, according to senior Pentagon officials.

“China has tested more hypersonic weapons than we have in a decade,” said Dr. Michael Griffin, U.S. Undersecretary of Defense for Research and Engineering, of the worrying disparity, which would allow China to strike targets anywhere in the world in under an hour.

Hypersonic weapons are projectiles that travel 5 times the speed of sound or about 3,853 miles per hour, can carry either conventional or nuclear warheads, and allow for a variety of trajectories that conventional defense systems are not up-to-date in their ability to intercept.

“We do not have defenses against those systems,” Griffin told the Senate Armed Services Committee in April 2018.

The Pentagon has dedicated 2 billion dollars of its budget this year to accelerate its development of the new technology in a bid to outpace Russia and China, who have both conducted successful hypersonic weapons tests in the last year.

In his State of the Union address in March 2018, Vladimir Putin cited the U.S. and NATO buildup of anti-ballistic weapons systems along the Russian border in Eastern Europe as the reason for Russia’s interest in the technology.

Earth’s Magnetic North Pole Is Shifting, Prompting Fears of a Coming Global Chaos

(Worthy News) – The Earth’s north magnetic pole has been moving from its old location in Northern Canada towards Siberia. And there is a growing concern among scientists that the weakening of the Earth’s magnetic field could someday cause its north and south poles to flip. And that could lead to global chaos.

The Earth’s magnetic north has been moving ever since it was first discovered in 1831. It’s driven by molten iron moving deep beneath the Earth’s crust.

But now magnetic north is moving so quickly that it forced the world’s geomagnetism experts to update the World Magnetic Model a year early. [ Source: CBN News (Read More…) ]

Cyclone Kenneth: Mozambique could face ‘catastrophic flooding’ as new storm makes landfall

(Worthy News) – Six weeks after a tropical storm left hundreds dead in Mozambique, another potentially destructive cyclone has made landfall.

Part of the African nation – one of the poorest countries in the world – was left devastated by Cyclone Idai last month, and there are fears that Cyclone Kenneth could bring about similar carnage.

Mandatory evacuations were carried out ahead of its arrival, which is expected to bring heavy rain and flooding to northeastern regions largely spared by its predecessor. [ Source: Sky News (Read More…) ]

(Worthy News) – President Donald Trump on Thursday called the FBI probe into his 2016 campaign and subsequent investigations into Russian election meddling “an attempted overthrow” of his administration.

China Plastic Waste Ban Throws Global Recycling into Chaos

(Worthy News) – From grubby packaging engulfing small Southeast Asian communities to waste piling up in plants from the US to Australia, China’s ban on accepting the world’s used plastic has plunged global recycling into turmoil.

For many years, China received the bulk of scrap plastic from around the world, processing much of it into a higher quality material that could be used by manufacturers.

But at the start of 2018, it closed its doors to almost all foreign plastic waste, as well as many other recyclables, in a push to protect the local environment and air quality, leaving developed nations struggling to find places to send their waste. [ Source: VOA News (Read More…) ]
