Erdogan wins sweeping new powers after Turkish election victory

(Worthy News) – Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan won sweeping new executive powers on Monday after his victory in elections that also saw his Islamist-rooted AK Party and its nationalist allies secure a majority in parliament.

Erdogan’s main rival, Muharrem Ince of the Republican People’s Party (CHP), conceded defeat but branded the elections unjust and said the presidential system that now takes effect was “very dangerous” because it would lead to one-man rule.

A European rights watchdog also said the opposition had faced “unequal conditions”, adding that restrictions on media freedom to cover the elections were accentuated by a continuing state of emergency imposed in Turkey after a failed 2016 coup. [ Source (Read More…) ]

Massive Protests Break Out In Tehran

Crowds of protesters shut down the main market in Tehran after the Iranian national currency crashed against the U.S. dollar.

Christian Conservatives Warn of ‘Dangerous’ Hate After Trump Press Sec. Booted From Restaurant

(Worthy News) – The decision of a restaurant to boot President Donald Trump’s Press Secretary Sarah Sanders from its premises has elicited responses from Christian leaders, writers, and pundits who warn this will only yield further discord and violence.

Sanders posted on her Twitter page Saturday that the Red Hen in Lexington, Virginia had asked her to leave the night before due to her affiliation with the president of the United States.

Christian Florist Wins at Supreme Court in Gay Wedding Case

(Worthy News) – The U.S. Supreme Court Monday handed a major religious liberty win to a Washington state Christian florist, vacating a lower court ruling that had required her to design an arrangement for a gay marriage ceremony.

In a one-paragraph unsigned order, the justices said the lower court’s ruling “is vacated, and the case is remanded to the Supreme Court of Washington for further consideration in light of” the court’s Masterpiece decision that sided with a Christian cake designer.

The Washington state Supreme Court now will reconsider the case, which involved a floral artist — Barronelle Stutzman – who had declined to design a floral arrangement for a same-sex couple. The Washington state attorney general sued her and won. [ Source: Christian Headlines (Read More…) ]

Rouhani says Iran will not give in to pressure from Trump

(Worthy News) – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani on Tuesday (Jun 26) lambasted United States President Donald Trump’s withdrawal from a deal with Iran on its nuclear program, and said Iranians will not give in to US pressure but would defend their independence and Islamic values.

Rouhani, in a speech broadcast live on state television, said Trump’s action on the international deal was “appalling and illegal” and had hurt America’s global reputation.
